You may be your own most severe critic. That will be an asset in improving your skills; & in the matter of your minis quality, your opinion is the only one that really matters. That said, other than the black lining I think the Pirate Babe looks TERRIFIC, only falling short of GREAT in comparison to your more recent works. VERY WELL DONE!

Funny thing the more provocative Ladies I've painted & sold have usually sold to females. May be they were trying to get them off the open market.

Very nice painting job and miniature.

Painting black is always a problem. some people highlight with grey and other people with blues some people leave a lot of black and just add a little blue/grey/white point, some people make smooth transitions.

Cheers.

I see what you mean (both painting wise and otherwise  lol).

Maybe a careful wash over her skin will soften the transition a little?
And I understand your problem with black. It takes a lot of time to paint that colot right. You might like to have a look at a Nazgul I painted some time ago in my Midle Earth Thread about painting blacks.

I think it's on page 5.

But then again, I think the black on your model doesn't look bad.

I went through that thread and I must say I am impressed with everything you've done. There's a close-up pic of a swinging bridge you built that I just love. How do you build all that terrain?

Oh, well, it's nothing fancy really.

Here's the thread to building it.

It's really not that difficult, you just basically need some space to let it dry in between working steps.

Have you ever considered having a blog? With as much as you've done and with your scratch building abilities, I would think the guys on blogger would love it.

Nah, LAF is about as much internet presence as I can handle. I'm too lazy for any more...  ;)

This figure is from Reaper and was sculpted by Patrick Keith.

I'm including this cowgirl as she is my most recent work and shows improvement.

She's from Reaper and was sculpted by Bob Ridolfi.

I'll use this thread to post all my babes and my females. In a couple of weeks I'll be starting a thread that is devoted only to sculpts by Tom Meier.

Thank you.

EXCELLENT STUFF! While your flesh tones are TERRIFIC, it's your eye for interesting color choices that make your minis stand out for moi. VERY WELL DONE!

With the cowgirls it was tough finding ways to introduce colour. Very challenging for me to paint with subdued blues and browns. I think I like colour so much for two reasons: one, I'm a female, but more importantly I'm an avid gardener. Jaysus, you should see my gardens, a massive riot of colour everywhere.

I've got three out of four of the cowgirls done. The last one is giving me fits as she's wearing a duster and chaps. It's a field of unrelenting browns. Trying to get enough separation between those is hard.

Your skills are certainly improving fast. The cowgirl is really, really good. Both the choice of color and the painting itself are excellent.

Well, my garden is a djungel of weeds. I let those plants grow that manage to survive there without any help of mine. Aside from some (very Little) lawn mowing nothing happens there. So it's more a meddling of browns and greens.  :D

I have five separate gardens and here's a very abbreviated list of what's in them. 300 tulips, 200 bearded iris, 300 dutch iris, 12 iris hollindica, 16 rose bushes, shastas, coneflowers, black eyed susans, blanket flowers, cosmos, calendula, 5 varieties of coreopsis, catch fly, zenias, cactus, 40 lillies, 20 daylillies, 20 tiger lillies, 3 varieties of poppy, lavender, mexican hat, batchelor buttons, four o'clocks, garden phlox, tall phlox, siberian wallflowers, honeysuckle and I grow all my own herbs and I do a vegetable garden as well.

I planted it all myself as there wasn't one plant here when I bought this house two years ago. There's so much colour it looks like Walt Disney puked on my lawn.

Oh well, good to see that the flowers inspired your painting, I'd say.

lol Love it! Any pics on the blog?

Back to the painting- Teshub loves brown. It's a "real-world color" as he puts it in his defense. He did a cyclops in a study of brown - I think 17 different shades? I'm trying to find the pics now. With my organizational skills it might be faster for me to find the mini and take new ones.

This is my most recent Babe. It's from my O'Leary Cowgirl series. There are 4, one for each of the O'Leary girls.

Here's my sister Leilon and her story.

Leilon is the nicest of the lot of us. She rarely shows a temper and seems to be perpetually happy.

While having a higher than average IQ, Leilon will admit to being a bit ditzy.  "I've lost my sunglasses. Has anyone seen them?" she'll ask as she hunts around the house. The rest of us are trying not to laugh, because her sunglasses on on the top of her head. And when we point it out she just says "Ooops" and giggles.

Leilon is oblivious to the attention of males. She has no idea that they find her attractive. She and her husband have a house on a lake. Now it's a big property and Leilon push mows the thing whilst wearing her bikini.

The first summer after they bought the place all the local boys started asking her husband if they could come fish the lake. Being a nice guy, he said yes. He had no idea that Leilon was mowing in her bikini in the afternoons. None of those guys were there to fish, all of them were there hoping that Leilon would come out to mow. Well, word got back to him and now a giant sign with angry letters sits at the end of their lane and it says "No Fishing, No Hunting-DON'T ASK".  What did Leilon say? She said "Ooops" and then she giggled.
