"Update with pictures* ACW Iron Brigade
« on: 04 May 2013, 11:19:21 PM »
hello guys

I would like to convert figures to use as members of the Iron Brigade. I'm thinking of using the marching Union infantry in Frock coats by the Perries and get some spare heads with Hardee hats from Redoubt Enterprises. Does anybody know if these are compatible ?

Well, when I eyeballed them next to each other the figures looked approximately compatible. Couldn't tell you wether the heads will work on the bodies though. This seems like a lot of work; you're going to cut off the plastic heads and drill out neck holes for the redoubt heads.

Wouldn't it be easier to either buy Redoubt's Iron Brigade packs or the Foundry ones (which may well be Perry sculpts)?

You may also want to check out Sash and Saber's Iron Brigade.  Although I personally do not own any as yet, they look rather nice on their website as well as Old Glory's.

Although Foundry credit Alan and Michael for the Iron Brigade figures they were actually made by me (a very long time ago).
I think they are probably a bit shorter than the current Perry range also the pack mix won't allow you to have a marching unit.
It may be possible under the "new management " to get multiples of certain figures if you ask nicely .
Personally I would convert ...(I haven't seen the Redoubt heads so I would also get a sample pack of these first)

I hope I have been of some help

thanks for the comments everyone!

Hi mr. Morrison! the current pack mix was also a concern of mine and it seems the command pack is no longer available  :'(

I ordered some of the redoubt heads and the Perry marching figures. If the heads don't match I'll see if I can cut off the hats and stick them on the Perry figures. I'm sure that's a lot of work but if it's worth the effort I don't mind. It often helps to think of someone you don't like when converting figures so no problem  ;D (just joking there)

Anyway I'll post some pictures of my progress,

Can I ask what you have been sculpting recently?

I bought the Foundry ones, seems a lot of work and expense replacing heads.

I also have these and they are excellent sculpts 8) 8) 8)
Unfortunately the Perry sergeants and officers I recently bought are lacking the sharp definition  >:( that Foundry gives one IMHO.

A CANADIAN local hobby store with a small selection of historical wargames miniatures (mainly from Warlords). They also have a great selection of paint and hobby accessories from Vallejo, Army painter, AK Interactive, Green Stuff World and more.; https://tistaminis.com/

Time for Perry's to do some metal Iron Brigade, Berdan Sharpshooters, and command in Frock Coats to round out their line.
