Quote from: "Prof.Witchheimer"
in the town where I was born (lost in the Great steppe, former cossacks outpost), somewhere in the today's north Kazakhstan, we had a Czech legion cemetery, in the middle of the city, a really old one, with some moss-covered gravestones and broken wooden crucifixes. It was a little cemetary, maybe 20x40 meters and full of weeds. Czech forces went through the town one day and have leaved their deads and casualties. The result was that little cemetery. I was a litle boy of five when I saw it first time and I was really haunted, my friend (a boy of six) said, look, there the gravestones of the Czechs. Who are Czhechs, me asked. No idea, he said, some monsters, I guess...Now I was really haunted...The Czechs...

that was the first time I've heard of Czech Legion :)

Hi Alex,

A very moving story.

Thankyou for sharing your past with us folks.
Best wishes,
Helen

I really like your story, Alex, the word "Czech" is so mysterious...

For the link, I did nothing : I just did copy/past

But I'm glad you're enjoyed it : I also think the Czech legion story is fascinating.
For me, all begins when I was looking for informations about the French expedition in Arkangel and I read this :

An account of the Legion by a Czech veteran : obviously biased but very interesting.

It looks as though Osprey publishing has a volume in the works for the Czech Legion 1914-1920.

 :)

Unfortunately it appears to be scheduled for release Sept of 2009.

 :(

Perhaps if we all wrote they could be pursuaded to expidite the release date.

great news, but actually that pic isn't new, it's from the White Russians Osprey and only the guy on the left is from the Czech Legion. I guess, it's just because they didnt make any new pics.

They often do that, making a mock-up cover out of the nearest things in their library just for the preview pics. Obviously the artwork hasn't been done yet and they'll change the pic as soon as it is available.

Lets hope they find a good artist to do the book justice 8)

I've notice of late that some of the art is not up to standard which is a real shame.

Aye ye go away for a few days and all this happens!!!!  Awesome.  The Czech infantry have arrived.  They're very good (other than the basic pose).  Much leaner than some of his figs and good detail on the rifle and bayonets.  That armoured train is awesoooome, as are all the pics of the legion.  Oh no, here I go again.  I'll have to sell the wife and children to pay for all this, but what the hell!
