Hello to everyone,

I am looking for a small spaceship or landing craft for 28 mm miniatures (scale 1:50). My scratchbuild project looks not very promising so I think it is time for an alternative.

following restriction should be met:
  • No games workshop model
  • No major franchise (like StarWars, Star Trek etc.)

I looked already for suitable toys, but no luck so far. Maybe somebody can help?
(… or I am forced to cannibalize more innocent newborn model kits.) :?

An age old question for any sci-fi gamer.  It really depends on your definition of "small" but to the above, I'd add the Old Crow "VTOL Lander".  I have one and it is a nice model, but it's closer fit to 25mm figures than 28mm figures.

http://www.oldcrowmodels.co.uk/

Old crow doesn't have their online catalog up, but he will cast pieces on demand.  I ordered some back in March and it took about a month from my first email to delivery.

Also, if you google images of the lander, you can find scale comparisons against the 40K valkyire, and some of the GZG dropships.

There is a toy that's not to bad for conversion.  The Terminator Aerial Hunter Killer from Playmates is a good base, but at 9" long it may be a little bigger than your looking for, and they are getting a little rarer and more expensive on ebay.

Thanks for your help and findings!

Maybe the topic is worth a sticky.

I like the Aerial Hunter Killer, but its vinyl.
The I.S.S.C.V. Dropship is very stylish, but expensive
The Corvus and Old Crow VTOL Lander maybe to small, although it for Hasslefree miniatures

I think the Dropship from daemonscape is suitable, allthough its looks not overly "aggressive".

Hmm, ... not an easy decision.

There are a lot of paper options that I unfortunately can't post from work.

One of the few I can actually hit, is from the old Ebbles site.  http://www.genetmodels.com/

I have one and it's plastic and takes paint well.  You may be thinking of the Horizon kit, which is PVC.  Here's a pic of one painted up for AT-43 (not mine):

Angry Badger Gaming just put up some preview pictures of a dropship that they are working on.  No release date yet or cost, but it's worth keeping an eye on:

I haven't seen them in person, but are any of the DUST fliers drop-shippy?

No, they are rather small - fighter-bombers material, not dropships.

You can see some size comparisons here (13:37 mark):

Of course the video is in Portuguese and you'll see my hands prancing about, lol ;)

Try looking with 'different eyes'.

I've always wanted to see someone who is not possessed of ten only-opposable digits take a ST:DS9 Runabout and use the a** as the front. Needs a new 'behind' treatment, but I think it would be an impressive drop ship.

The front end could be cut off and used as a shuttle in it's own right.

Edit: Never mind; that made sense when I was finding them in closeouts for $5USD.

You might try to buy one of these, glue the cockpit shut, and then paint the whole thing brown like it has a solid fuselage.

I know you say your scratch building project seems to be stalling, but its probably almost as easy as converting a toy to fit. Here's mine:
