I agree with you 100%

Because of this, I no longer feel the need to paint them myself unless I feel like it.

Are you familiar with Howard Pyle's Robin Hood?
If not google "howard pyle" "robin hood" and check out the images.
Pyle was a great author as well as a phenomenal illustartor from the golden age.
