As much as I would've loved to contribute something special to this thread (like the ancient Chinese seen before), I'm obviously in good company with my preference for all things Roman and gladiatorial combat in particular.
Thus people hopefully don't mind if I squeeze in another gladiator before we get to the finals. Building up the basics, my ludus has just hired Satornilos, a thraex. Again, more on that on another occasion.

Wow - loving this ancients goodness - especially the gladiators!!

This lovely miniature is my version of young Caesar. No idea if I'm wrong or not but I do believe Mr.Copplestone had thought of Caesar sculpting this one.

Why is he wearing blue? That's another story. Being impressed by a "blue" centurion painted by Mad Doc (http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=51058.0) I was going to give him some maritime colours. In my imagination it's Caesar pursuing the pirates of Aegean Sea:

On the way across the Aegean Sea, Caesar was kidnapped by pirates and held prisoner. He maintained an attitude of superiority throughout his captivity. When the pirates thought to demand a ransom of twenty talents of silver, he insisted they ask for fifty. After the ransom was paid, Caesar raised a fleet, pursued and captured the pirates, and imprisoned them. He had them crucified on his own authority, as he had promised while in captivity—a promise the pirates had taken as a joke. As a sign of leniency, he first had their throats cut.
