Unfortunately/fortunately none of the miniatures in the game struck an aesthetic convergence for me. See (Usual Wikipedia warning and cautions here)

I blame my History based background (one of my degrees) for wanting things to not be "beyond the third sigma" if they are reflecting human/humanoid structure. Or maybe it's because I am an American (insert adjective of choice) with the traits there of...
I suppose it's my limitation - maybe that is why I like JRRT style (just not the slavish imitations) or Poul Anderson or Ursula le Guin styles rather than Terry Pratchett or L K Rowling or GW style Fantasy, so called "realistic" Science Fiction than Science Fantasy , and VSF more than Steampunk.
You present a very good case for why you like what you like. Well done.
