Quite a long time since I last posted on this thread but I thought I would share with you how my pirates game is coming along.
My local wargames club North Bradley and Trowbridge have recently started a Pirates campaign using my rule set Dead Man's Chest (no relation to a certain Old West set of rules). I thought I would share some pictures and a AAR.
The first Scenario is Treasure Island. Here two crews are seeking the same buried treasure. All they know is that it is buried near a strange rocky outcrop. First picture shows one of the buried treasure markers.
The Royal Navy crew led by Lt Windsor (his crew are all named with royal links such as Cambridge, Wales, Middleton!! etc) enter from the west. They have a small marine detachment giving them a marked advantage in firepower.
The Bootleggers privateer crew enter form the east under Captain Morgan Rhum and Bloody Mary (all named after drinks).
However they have sent a detachment led by 'Count' Armagnac to the south to ambush the Navy crew.
The main clash of crews is in the centre with the two leaders facing off against each other. Captain Rhum gets the better of Lt Windsor but is then faced by most of the Marines firing a volley at him and his small band of men.
Surprisingly the Marine's fire is pretty ineffectual and they kill only one man but on the next turn the brave lieutenant is killed and the navy crew withdraw from the centre.
On the right the ambush led by Count Armaganac is sprung and rips into the band of seamen led by Midshipman Spencer.
After a stirring defence lasting a couple of turns he is wounded and his band scattered leaving the privateer crew in possession of the buried treasure.
A great first game and played with a group of enthusiastic players who seemed to enjoy the game. A few rule amendments were offered up and debated and agreed upon. A successful playtest of the rules.
There are 5 other scenarios in the initial rules including Cutting out, Boarders Away, Free the Crew, Capture the Governor's Daughter and my favourite - Re-victual the Ship. In this one the crew who have run out of water, put into a deserted island to fill up their water barrels. Unbeknownst to them another crew have had the same idea and the two sides meet at the water hole. Filling up your water barrels in the face of another crew is one thing but to add a bit of friction there is also a herd of wild boar, who are none to keen on the interlopers and make their feelings known to anyone foolish enough to come close.
The boars move randomly and are quite tough to kill but juicy enough to BBQ if you can kill one and get it off the table. They count as additional gold should you do so. I'll post some pictures of that game shortly.
