Dr Mathias's Dreamforge Eisenkern
« on: June 28, 2013, 08:03:59 AM »
I'm starting on the plastic Dreamforge stuff, there will be some sporadic WIPs coming down the pipe.

It's pretty rough still, I am still working out colors as displayed on the box. The first base coats are very time consuming and very maddening. I wondered why the hell dwartist showed WIPs of half painted armor when he was doing his Eisenkern, and now I know why! I did a few new/different things, such as leaving the head detached as I paint it (tip picked up from from dwartist) and using black primer which I haven't done for years.

I haven't painted a monotonous unit in a LONG time and its driving me nuts. Beautiful figures though, I love the armor and way these guys were designed. The photo is goofy as well, makes the figure seem top heavy. They're actually very nicely proportioned. I need to set up a proper WIP photo station.

Looks good so far.  :)
I've got a box here, myself. I'm thinking of swapping the heads for some from maxmini or similar, maybe keep them grey though.....
.....hopefully I'll start them sometime in the next couple of years! o_o

Is it weird that I keep wondering about this set with the heads from the VSF kickstarter minis by the member here?

http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=45304.90

^The endless number of head options from that Kickstarter makes me think (assuming they scale properly) that you could have some really really cool options for kit-bashing.  I love the idea of these guys with ceremonial turbans, or the cool hooded gas mask type...

Nope, those heads have me dreaming up endless uses. They're going to be great.

Group shot of the first ten man squad. Mostly finished, just waiting on some custom decals I'm having Company B print for me.

I was pretty bored of gray by the end of these so I deviated from the box art regarding the color of the panzerfaust. Tedious painting, at least what I'm used to doing, but they're really cool figures. Looking forward to making all sorts of things with these guys.

Wow, nice job. You're right, the photos on the box don't really do them justice. I had a lot of fun putting a group of 5 together, with conversions undertaken with relative ease. Keep it up!

The colour of that panzerfaust made me immediately want to do all of these as Afrika Corps to fight some future Brits...by mashing up British DUST units with the new Perry WW2 Brits...

WIP of the leg of the Leviathan Crusader. I haven't done much weathering on vehicles prior to this project so I'm moving tentatively.

Over the last two weeks I've built the twenty man box set, the accessories, the support weapons, and the Crusader.  o_o

WOW these are cool kits. Tedious little dudes to paint though... oh, the monotony...

More weathering is better weathering. Dont be shy. The more you do the more junky it looks.

I like your paint jobs, but why not have a bit of a go weathering the troops too? Some rust and mud would add some nice colour, and give you more chance to practice!

I personally love the crushed concrete slab idea you're doing with the Leviathan boot.
