The Prisoner(finished10/7 pic heavy)
« on: June 30, 2013, 09:51:16 PM »
Unfortunately this isn't for my own games!! :'( I've been asked if I can convert a Mini Moke from eBay into the one from The Prisoner. I stripped off the paint in a jar full of Detol. You just leave it for a couple of days, then take an old toothbrush to it and the paint falls off. It leaves something like this....

So now I need to make into this....

There seems to be a spare wheel missing from the back. I moulded one of the original tyres using Green Stuff and started to make a frame for the roof from copper wire. I'm still not sure wither to use GS or tissue loaded with PVA for the cover....

The wonders of Dettol, eh?
Never thought of trying it on die-cast.
Hmmmm......

Be seeing you!

edit: just looked it up on ebay, a reconditioned one with a reproduction box is like$75; a real one is more than $300! Wow!

I'd suggest tissue mate as its light and you can gently sand it smooth after the pva has dried.

I remember watching the whole thing when it was on telly when I was at school. There was only me, one other lad and our art teacher who used to watch it  :D

I somehow caught it when I was off one spring. I think maybe I had stopped going to university. And then I bought the series (I think I have them all!) on DVD. Just an enthralling show.

@UncleMike - the "you are a brilliant man!" was a nice play - well done! :)

Good strip down AndyM, she will look a beauty painted up. I like your greenstuff Steering wheel so far.

i am glad the Detol worked for you, I found an old Corgi under the unit block I'm living in at the moment, and stripped it in Detol, but the metal began to bubble. It worked for me, as i wanted to paint a rusty wreck... but interesting the Diecast behaved that way.

I wanted one for the Falklands War but gave up when I saw the prices on Ebay :o it would have been too big to go with the other vehicles I ended up getting so am not too upset now.

The prices are only bad if you want a perfect, mint condition one, but surely for our purposes a beat up one is just as handy? You don't have to do much to them to bring them up.

I've decided to go with a third option for the roof. I've gently shaped plastic card to give me the indents and I'm going to add GS skirts around the outsides....

I've also added the steering wheel, engine cover tie-downs and a whippy aerial. I decided to cover the spare wheel to keep it in line with the ref pic I've got.

That is fantastic! Get it 3D scanned, scaled down to 1:56 or so, and start selling them, right away! o_o

Sure brings back memories.
Used to watch this dubbed in French.
While the belgian national tv was broadcasting the umpteenth rerun of flemish homemade series I mostly tuned in to TF1 (BBC wasn't on the cable back then) to watch Temps X.
As luck would have it, I got to see the prisoner and the twilight zone, be it in French (which was actualy good for my school French  :D)

But I don't have your amazing skills. :D Seriously though I was more worried about the size being compatible with other vehicles and didn't want to waste money on a gamble (again).
I had one as a kid which was pretty well beaten up. Wish I had kept it along with the Bat Mobile, Monkees car and some other gems.
