It's pretty shoddy
If that is your pretty shoddy version of a "How To" tutorial, I will eagerly await one of your pretty good tutorials. I thought it was a very well written tutorial and the step by step photos perfectly complimented your writing. Enjoyed it immensely.

Excellent tutorial.  8) I haven't tended to use washes in the past but I might experiment with them in the future.

Great looking minis and a marvelous tutorial. You make it look so easy.  :o

Great, great tutorial. In fact, I'd like to copy and stick in in 'How to...' as it has some new grips which one could peruse and learn from.

I never thought of washing eye whites as an alternative to leaving them out completely. That's worth a try.

No problem, feel free to copy it.

When washing the eyes just make sure to control the 'pooling', most people seem to use ink for shading and just slop it on, whereas I tend to use it for subtle value or color shifts or for unifying tones. Eyes are a bitch to paint no matter who you are. It looks easy in the tutorial but I do have to touch them up on a second go-around on probably one quarter of the figures at least. I've found that if you have painted one eye that has the bulging pop-eye effect and the other one looks okay, you can often tone it down and make it work without repainting the white or pupil, just by using a little ink to knock the white down a bit.

I should be posting the next squad later today.

Atonga Askari squad two sallies forth, three days late.

"Something's amiss at the ovens?"

(Ovens from the Rorke's Drift set by Empress)

In addition to the squad of ten, three NCOs, the European officer and the ovens, I finally finished up some East African ne'er-do-wells I've had sitting on my desk. Two figures from the Perry Sudan range (pretty sure they're from the Nile Arab pack) that have been sitting on my desk since LPL 5. They were meant for the 'Beastmistress' entry but didn't make the cut. Also a few Baluchis from the Foundry range which were also supposed to be in an LPL entry, 'Hijinks in the Harem' but I decided that entry already had enough figures in it :)

Last but not least a landship captain from Ironclad Miniatures. An unenthusiastic paintjob on what is probably their least nice figure. I saw him when I was at GenCon and he fit the wackier VSF side of this project so I sneaked him in- I was painting khaki anyway.

I also painted four more female Handmaids of Isis cultists, but I can't see them traipsing around Nyasaland- so they'll be posted elsewhere.

They definitely were worth the extra few days.  :) It's always a good feeling to get those malingers off your paint desk.  :)
