Splendid  8)

To follow on from Andy's suggestion, would clear bases be suitable?

cheers

Clear hex bases could be really cool. The tentacle could just rise out of the round bit in the middle. But I also like the idea of having them look like they're coming out of a choppy wave. Loads of work, I know but it could look stunning :D :D

Thanks chappesses and chaps!

I am afraid I will have to go for the base-less approach as time is short... :(
I will simply attach the tentacles with black tack to the water surface.
I agree that sculpted bases with splashing water would be the coolest solution, but what can you do?

I finally have a full day of painting and to top it off, I am sitting in the garden. Man, this is the life...! ;D
So far I am about halfway through...

Stay tuned for more...

As much as I like your depiction of the Greek ship of state fatally strangled by rising debt interest, no politics please!  lol ;)

@Topic, that's quite a crackin' piece of work. I quite like how smooth and natural the skintone looks so far, although I wonder if it might turn out a bit dull in the end? Not that I would suggest anything like those crazy rainbow-coloured squids, though.

Cherno, this is outstanding! I could have saved so much time and energy! lol
Never have thought about lego having produced something among the lines of a squid! Considering the straight lines the Lego blocks dictate, this is a masterpiece. Is it a kit or did you come up with it?

Thanks, Chris! Yeah, thought as much. I pushed the contrast a little more after I read your contribution, adding some pinks and blues. It still is relatively dull though. But I wanted it to stay simple and natural looking, because, as you will see, it is quite big and striking paint jobs somehow lose their impact the bgger the model is.

Thank you, Jim!

When doing some research, I saw the documentary about the giant squid being caught on film for the first time ever. They filmed in an absurd location, about 600 metres below water level. Nobody expected the animal to look like it would be made of some kind of organic metal.  :o Man, I freaked out about how impossibly alien it looked! Like a being not from this world.

Bezzo and DeafNala: Cheers guys!

So, finally, the paint job is finished, enjoy the pics!

I used Reaper Master series coloured metallics on the eyes. They rock!

See, I wanted it to be able to attack a ship:

Some indication of scale needed? There you are:

I talked to Zafarelli from pardulon-models.com about releasing this. This monster is far too huge to garner any real interest, I think, but If you really would like to have one of these beasts, we would make them. However, we could only produce them if we would sell at least 5 of them. Feel free to contact me about details.

:-* Love it. Also love the idea of the tentacles counting as separate figures for gameplay purposes.

Fantastic work.  Did I read correctly that you cast the original parts?
