Post Apocalyptic British Police
« on: 27 July 2013, 02:44:52 PM »
First couple of figures for my group of Brit Zombie Apocalypse survivors. Looking at the figures I've bought to represent them so far, it would appear I've managed to cast a British version of "The Walking Dead" (which isn't really a bad thing...)

Toys are Hasslefree's Definitely Not Sgt Nicholas Angel and Obviously In No Way Similar to PC Danny Butterman; and as usual from Kev's workbench, are absolutely beautiful and a joy to paint.

The POLICE writing on the back of the armour looks a lot better from 3 feet away...

I wanted some suitably post-apocalyptic indicators on the bases, hence the newspaper headline...(it's a line from an Entombed song, and as I was listening to them while I was painting it just seemed to fit!)

Cheers for looking
Iain.
Proudly not painting Wars of The Roses since... ever

FANTASTIC!  How did you do the newspaper?

Thanks, Too Bo Coo!

Newspaper was quite straight forward. I just measured out roughly how big a newspaper should be in 28mm scale, and drew it out on the computer on a drawing/photo-editting package on the computer. The picture of the dog was just a cropped and shrunk picture of my cousin's (suitably bemused looking) mutt. the image was then just printed on an ordinary desktop printer on standard cartridge paper and glued to the base with PVA.

Cheers
Iain.

Those look lovely. SO me very fine detail work there.
The care and effort you out into the bases really makes the models something special though.

Great. The newspaper tops it off.

Somewhere out in internet-land there's a DL of PA/Urban rubbish with magazines, newspapers, Doritos bags, posters. Have to hunt it down now...

Nice, Constable Angle!  ;)

Sweet PJ's on them both. After painting my own 'Nick' I appreciate the difficulty of that rear police lettering! The grass growing out the road is a nice addition.

After the zombie apocalypse, will we still have to elect police commissioners we know nothing about?

The newspaper is a great touch but I really like the little tufts of grass sprouting through the asphalt.
Great work.
Below is a link to my blog. It's the place where I write uninteresting things about little toy soldiers. I do this because I refuse to grow up and behave like an adult.

@TBC: If I remember correctly it was GW Chaos Black, highlighted by adding progressively more Skull White to the black as I got to the sharpests folds/ creases in the uniform. They then got a coat of Humbrol 49 Matt Varnish to kill the sheen.

Re: the bases, Sam originally had a wee rusty can of Heinz beans on his aswell, but an unscheduled flight down the loft hatch soon put paid to that... :(

I always found the policeman with the bandaged face from "Threads" to be a good example of how a law enforcement officer could look like in teh aftermath of a nuclear war or similar catastrophe.
