John Sibbick painted the cover of the original Rogue Trader and the art was used by the band Bolt Thrower for their album Realm of Chaos. This was all done with the permission, and possible direction, of Brian Ansell. When Earache Records decided to reissue Realms of Chaos they could no longer secure the rights to the original art so they commissioned John Sibbick to do an original painting for the album.

Although Bolt Thrower might not be your cup of tea, and the band is calling for a boycott of the reissue, I was intrigued by this artwork as it shows what 40K might have started off as and implied what it might have turned in to.



This style of armor reminds me somewhat of the original LE10 Powered Armor Marine.

Beautifully done. Very retro in style, although it is hard to mentally match the rather "alien-looking" powered armours to the entrenched artistic style of the Imperium. On their own, they are awesome, as is the big stompy robot thingie in the backdrop.

I remember I didn't like Bolt Thrower when I was about sixteen. But after that I learned to appreciate lots of noise/hardcore/trash and worse. I should go and investigate tonight.

As for miniatures, Black Hat's 'Cobalt' range immediately comes to mind. They have a few great retro power armour minis.

Wow, it's barely a stretch to imagine that on the front of Titan Legions or similar I really love it! Bolt Thrower weren't/aren't too bad either, just as retro, straight ahead, primitive, brutish fare if a bit tame in retrospect.

Oh, I heard them all right, back in the early 90's   I love thrash, death metal, you name it but I just couldn't bring myself to enjoy Bolt Thrower. I was a devotee of 40K too!!!

Oh boy, just yesterday I almost bought that re-issue. I have the original on CD and picture disc, but wanted myself a black vinyl.

I really like the new cover, but the old one is an unbeatable classic (so is the album).

And I think anyone who was a teenanger and death metal fan in the early 90s will remember this album and their lovely bass player Jo Bench

I think this art is a bit of a mismatch with the music.
To campy, not brutal enough.

I Love, well like, the music. I've seen them live once and that was a kick-ass concert.
Having one cd in my collection will do though
