Excellent - ordered Frostgrave and ran out of £££ but my much better other half has just said that she'll buy these as a late Father's day present from the kids!
Happy Days :)

I've not read Frostgrave, so I have no clue what that game is like.  But if you are familiar with the Crooked Dice games, OWS uses the same mechanics according to Karl from CDG.  He was the principle author of OWS.  Perhaps someone who has Frostgrave can help with explaining that game...sorta curious myself :D

Other then being skirmish games they really don't have a lot in common. In frost grave you control a human warband through linked games. It's kinda like Mordheim lite.

Otherworldly fantasy skirmish uses the crooked dice mechanics to pretty much play out a old school d&d battle.

If you want to play a campaign based game frostgrave is a better choice. But if you want to fight it out with all the classic d&d monsters and character classes go with OWS.

Personally I plan on playing a lot of both

I've ordered both..

Frostgrave has already arrived and I have a quick first impressions post on my Blog.

I picked up Frostgrave after reading the review in Wargames Soldiers and Strategy - I though it sounded like a lot of fun.

Otherworlds Fantasy Skirmish was actually ordered before I read the review in the same magazine and I ordered this book because I thought it sounded like just the book I want - bringing back fond memories of the very early days of Dungeons and Dragons. I think of it as a nostalgia kick!

Expect another review when Otherworlds Fantasy Skirmish arrives.

My copy has just arrived.

My first impression is a beautifully put-together and illustrated rule book.

It has the look and feel of an Olde Style D&D or Warhammer 2nd edition. I'll write more when I have had chance to read through it.

I'm SO excited!  Unfortunately I'll be honeymooning about the same time the full set with tokens ships, so I'll have to wait until I get back in September.  I'm a huge fan of Crooked Dice's Action Engine and since Karl was the author of OWS, I have every confidence that this will be just as epic!

Looking forward to your impressions! :D

I'm interested but not enough to spend 40 quid for the tokens etc.  Will these be available later?  And are they necessary to play the game, or just handy to have?

Pretty necessary, or you can make your own.  I think that's for the rules, tokens, cards and the adventure pad.  Not 'cheap' but not outrageous either.  I love the 7TV games and since this is an AD&D version with my nearly complete collection of Otherworld minis, it's right up my alley!

Brilliant, I'm working from home today/tomorrow morning - afternoons off with the boys. They can have some extra xbox time while I read the rules :)
