It can be used as either.  If you've played 7th voyage or 7tv then you will be familiar with how the rules set works generally however there are some definite differences to fit the genre

Thanks for the kind comments. Yep it's the same skirmish system used by all the other Crooked Dice games. But it's an ode to the classic RPG, so we've tried to capture that feel as much as possible.

With over 70 profiles based on the Otherworld range you can pretty much build any type of fantasy faction you like to pit against each other.

You can enjoy a dungeon bash with a party of adventurers or evil cultists. Or play as a tribe of raiding Hobgoblins or a nest of Drow. Or just create a bunch dungeon denizens to pack into your 10x10 rooms!

It uses the same Magic and Magic Items mechanics as 7th Voyage and introduces a new Adventure deck filled with traps, treasure and wandering monsters to give your games plenty of twists are turns.
Something Crooked this way comes...

Uti, a few questions for you:
How are forces built? Points values?

Is it easy to create stats and profiles for models not represented in the rules (or "incorrectly" represented)?

Is it easy to create attributes, skills and other traits not in the rules?

Is the gameplay geared towards player(s) vs GM, player vs player, or maybe even player(s) vs system?

Does the card deck contain meta events such as those in 7tv? I'm referring to reshoots, technical difficulties and similar? I know we're not playing the recording of a fantasy TV-show here, but it could have been events such as "unprepared dungeon master", "new codex" or "rules argument". Heh. I hope you don't have events like that in THIS game, but please do a 7tv fantasy version with them in. =D

Forces are built with points values and we will also include pregenerated 'factions' for those how just want to pick-up-and-play.

On creating stats, models and profiles etc. Certainly, there is enough of a range of stats and abilities for you to be able to gauge balance. The action engine is a very open system, so plenty of scope to tailor and develop as you see fit.

It's primarily player vs player, but like our other games there is no reason why it can't also be run by a DM/GM (personally that's always my preferred approach when appropriate). Rules for solo play are also being considered for future releases.

There are a handful of meta-events similar to those you describe, but much reduced as the tone and mechanics needed something a little different.

Hope that helps :)

So am I!
My game group loves the 7tv engine, so it shouldn't be too hard to run this :)

The action engine is a very open system

I'll say ;)

Colour me very intrigued, our little group has been after some alternative skirmish rules for fantasy and Lord of the Rings games, do you think we'll be able to use these rules for them (I know the 7TV rules are quite flexible in this manner)?

Just put in a huge order to Otherworld. They added 2 new sets for the Females and Henchmen.  Also, they have a pretty good deal on vouchers. If you spend 100, you get 140 in swag.  You cant use the sale prices, but it's still a 40% bonus as opposed to a 25% sale!  I went a bit higher than this at the 200 level you get to spend 300...   I really wanted a definitive set of fantasy minis that while I like the Bones stuff, it feels too....high fantasy.  I just love the way Otherworld captures the AD&D world I grew up in...  I plan to get the entire line!

Sounds good, looking forwards to hearing more and that cover is fantastic! The bonus of solo rules sounds great.

So, just to enter the dancehall: miniature lines are done, rules have been playtested, counters and dices are known, as well as the game mechanics and even the cover for the forthcoming book ..... When does that thing starts ?? On early posts, release (crowfunding) was supposed to happen late 2013 ... well, here we are !   :D

I spoke to Ken from Crooked Dice last weekend at Crisis and he said they want to have everything to the point that when the Indigogo starts they can send a pdf of the rules immediately, and the final rules will be done 6-8 weeks later to our doors.  He estimated the first weeks of December.

Cheers!
