Glueing 25mm Polystyrene to 18mil Ply Wood???
« on: August 02, 2013, 08:29:13 AM »
Ok, this sounds like i'm answering my own question in a way but....

What sort of consistency would you guys recommend for the PVA glue? That is to say how much water to PVA do you recommend?

Darrell.

The point is: too much water will make the plywood to bend. I'd say quite dense might work. You can also scratch a little the polystyrene to add surface for the glue... works pretty well! ^^

I'd go for CA or epoxy glue by all means. PVA doesn't bond with polystyrene, so while it might hold together for some time, the miniatures will eventually fall off.

if one of the two sides is plywood and the other side is thick enough, pva would hold for a century before falling off... i wouldn't worry that much, personally! And scratching the surface before applying pva will help further...

But if you have epoxy glue, why not? the problem is that's more expensive, and for a large area could be a cost...

neat thick pva glue is all you need, it will not react with the polystyrene and is very strong.

I think the word polystyrene might be a bit different on the continent. Darrell is on about expanded polystyrene, the type that is made up of all those little white beads and pva would be fine  :)

cheers

did with both, actually: bubbled-nonbubbled, dense or light. The ones that don't stick virtually at all are the plasticards or forex... basically the one that you cannot scratch with a nail. there you can easily remove the PVA in one piece. :(

Ah ha! I think James my well be right.

We are getting confused over what I mean by polystyrene... I'm talking about expanded polystyrene, the sort of thing you might use as cheep insulation in a house; this sort of stuff:
