WW2 Sikhs - Perry & Valiant Conversions
« on: August 11, 2013, 07:07:48 PM »
I ordered some of the Perrys' separate Sikh heads to convert my plastic 8th Army models the other week, and they arrived pretty promptly (thanks Perrys, great service!)  The heads are very easy to add to the models - simply cut off the plastic head, drill a 1mm hole (no bother whatsoever into plastic), and attach with a spot of superglue.
Here's my first Bren gun team:

Now, I've also been keen to add some support weapons.  I noticed a while back that the Valiant Miniatures plastics were only slightly shorter than the Perrys, and some of the weapons looked oversized, so might match the Perry models.  (Valiant Minis are supposed to be 1/72, but are much larger, much closer to 'true' 25mm - each figure stands 25mm tall, anyway. They are super models but aren't really compatible with traditional 1/72 plastics, which is a shame.)  Having done a quick visual check, I picked up a box of the WW2 Valiant British set from Nick at Northstar, which comes with four Vickers guns and four 3" mortars.  I was initially planning just to rob the support weapons and convert the crew from Perrys, but then I realised that the Valiant Minis had some nice poses and might just fit with the Perry Sikh heads.  Some chopping and drilling later, and this is what I came up with (Valiant Models are grey, Perry parts are brown).  To make the loader (second from left) I trimmed down a Perry arm holding a 2" mortar to make a mortar bomb shape.

This chap is a proper mutant, but I like him.  I shortened the Perry left arm very slightly at the shoulder joint but that was as adventurous as it got!

The finished mortar team:

The Valiant Minis are still slightly smaller, but I don't think it's so noticeable with the kneeling models, so I may use these for all my mortar crews.

Without the WIP shots and your text I doubt very much that I would have noticed.  Great work.
