Guess what I got in the mail today?!?!  Some 20mm fun!  I'm pleased it came this way, 20mm before 28mm, so I can get a feel for the color scheme I most want. 

So I'll use this thread to keep this mini-mini-project updated.

I've always wondered about that set! Is this the one that also includes the gag nazi with a Luger gladiator figure?

They also make a 54mm set of the same minis I think?  Italeri and Pegasus I think both produce some nice plastic gladiators.  Are the Pegasus soft plastic or hard?

I think that's the Orion set, mine is one the way   The Pegasus set is the 'authentic' set of gladiators.  There are 18 poses and they look great.

I know they make 2 sets of 1/32 scale, 54mm, which are more or less upsized versions of the 20mm...

The Crusader mini's arrived today and WOW!  Cant wait to get dug in!

My playmobil Arena just arrived.....um......well..... the freakin thing is HUGE.  It's about a meter wide...

The up side?  it's broken down to 10 pieces so I can store it easily enough and just place the mat in the center....  I am thinking in the balance, it wont be awful in a cramped arena, but a low enough table to save on back strain....

I think this will go aside for a while.  My first 4 gladiators from Crusader are based and started.  I took steel wire of the same gauge and replaced all spears, tridents, etc.  I put the weapon heads back, but I think this way the weapon shafts just wont bend.  Even stronger at a thinner gauge than brass rod.  I highly recommend this step!  I took plastic Battletech bases that has a lip, and once the lip was off, whala! 1" hex bases! 

I ordered the Crusader set with he Scissor sculpt, in fact mostly for that sculpt.  The bottom 30% was not molded, and there's really n good fix short of resculpting the entire weapon, so I contacted them and they were great about sending a replacement.  Just wanted to share the nice experience.

Yeah, the arena is...hefty.  I too will be doing a very slow arena build.  I will use just parts of it sometime, and probably the whole thing for conventions etc.  I plan on adding a lot to it, and removing/replacing a bunch of stuff.  Should turn out pretty well (at least in my head!)
