They do look like big f-in Uruk Hai, don’t they?!? I just saw that - the gun guy, yeah.

But the scale would be off, would it not? Lotr are smaller - always have been.

They'd be broader by a wide (hehe) margin, but they'd probably be eye to eye with a lotr figure. So perfectly within the "orcs the size of men" realm of you want a more Rankin bass style orc.

TBH, I don't understand why the Chaos Dwarves got slotted into Age of Sigmar instead of The Old World. Last year, they finally got around to releasing the Chaos Dwarf Blood Bowl team and the aesthetic of the models is _very_ similar to what's in AoS.

Blood Bowl is, and has been, a parody homage to the Warhammer Old World. There are no teams based on AoS factions (skaven are kinda on the bubble). But with this release the Chaos Dwarves are kinda straddling both universes? Or the BB one is now inconsistent? I dunno.

Agreed that Chaos Dwarfs would have been awesome for Old World.

I’m thinking about figuring out a way to use them for OW anyway now. Maybe a modified Dwarf list …

My theory - they still have the masters for the VERY nice and VERY expensive forgeworld chaos dwarves kicking around, and will release those as an old world army once they run out of legacy plastic kits to bring back into production.

From a marketing perspective they may be splitting factions people want between the two systems to ensure a good uptake rate for both . been using an old beastman army for age of sigmar? well you can have your old warhammer back, just buy this rulebook and support the systems survival this time. New player? how would you like these shiny new updated chaos dwarves? just buy this age of sigmar generals handbook and ensure the game continues to thrive.

Warhammer fantasy died as a viable product once, GW have probably realised that they can't pull another age of sigmar and kill a major system like that again, so they're quite sensibly not putting all their eggs in one basket when it comes to getting people into the games. Besides, Warhammer fantasy players that want chaos dwarves will buy them regardless and just use old rules.

I guess AoS is pretty popular then. There’s about 25 different armies it looks like. That’s a lot of different models and rules. Is that more armies than 40k?

AoS is doing really well - especially with the recent spearhead rules being so well received. It has lots of armies but some are still part of the old warhammer backlog that will inevitably be phased out and rolled into other factions, and some are subfactions of grand alliances (you can have ghouls and skeletons and ghosts in the same force OR play a faction specific army).

I was thinking more for Middle-earth games in general rather than the GW LotR game. Yes, I'm sure the scale wouldn't work with the GW LotR figures.

Right - I was thinking they'd work well with large 28mm figures (say Victrix) - so that you could have "squat and broad" Uruks and "tall and grim" Dunlendings (as at Helm's Deep). And yes - definitely more along the Rankin Bass lines (the RB orcs do at least have the big heads and squat stature of the books, for all that they're probably not quite as most people imagine Tolkien's orcs).

Old World has a Chaos Dwarf list already...and the minis mostly translate over (though the aesthetic would be a little weird).

GW hasn’t done one, though. I’m still going to grab these!

You mean, this?

https://assets.warhammer-community.com/warhammertheoldworld_legends_chaosdwarfs_eng_24.09-5bhcdy0tag.pdf

They're a "Legacy" faction, so yes they're not going to get new models or new "Arcane Journals" or whatever, but they exist.  Val over at Square Based has also done something called the Renegade Pack which brings the Legacy factions up to date with some other armies and the recent FAQ's, etc.

Price increase incoming at the start of October

Quote
A Quick Note on Prices

From 6 October 2025, some prices in Warhammer stores and on Warhammer.com will be changing.

On average, prices will rise by about 4%, but the exact amount will vary by product – some will change a little more, some a little less. The prices of many products, including paints, sprays, and paint sets, aren’t changing at all.

We’re sharing this now so you’ve got time to make any purchases you’ve been planning at today’s prices.
