Das Heat is on! we march forward to the finish lol, This offering is nothing much, one of 12 I just painted for my SAGA warband LEVY unit, since these guys are the cannon fodder and I need a lot they get much less attention but look great in a group....got to save time and get these guys in the fight! I hope this thread last long enough to get my SKRAELINGS on....The bow string is brass as is the arrow, like it better than thread that can look bad after time a I feel it looks more like it was cast with the rest of the figure. I was going to put true arrow "fletches", (feathers) on but that would be 36 little feathers and that's to much for a levy unit and would get broken in play....

No. 108 A NORMAN levy or peasant archer,

Great stuff chaps  8) :-*

Finally finished this one today. He's going to be on a base with several others but I thought I'd post him as the others aren't quite finished yet.

No. 109 Daimyo's Hatamoto

Really like Jim's samurai. That is a lovely subdued set of colours for a samurai. Love the detail on the armour and the shading in the whole figure is brilliantly done. Hope you show the other figures and complete base as soon as they are done.

Man there is nothing like this kind of a "challange" and the posting of so many great inspiring paints to get one going ;D I haven't been so hot to paint the next few mini's in a long time!

Captn B, as always your stuff, so cool and so different from mine that I want to change my painting style....

Jim, Love and hate ;D >:( your Samurai 28's.....Love the casts and the simple, subtle, totally authentic paint jobs you put on them, HATE the fact that you may push me over the edge and I'll be ordering some! >:( Last year I just about finished my TWO 400-500 man 15mm Samurai Armies!

Von Trinkenessen,  Great job and like the "Gloss" finish as it make the figure look very much like the characters on glazed "drinking beer steins" very interesting.

Admiral B, Fine job on the viking :-* The detail is so there yet so subtle, well blended, you even got the fingernails.... Is the shield center painted or a transfer? either way and awesome execution of blending transfer into the shield edge o_o If you painted the whole thing then I must bow to you and give up painting lol

I finally got a moment to take a few pictures of my first SAGA Norman Warlord, William the Bastard. This represents a “Hero of the Viking Age” in the rules so I really wanted a standout figure and base for this, to show him leading from the front, in the “thick” of it, and most of all to convey the brutality that was combat in the Dark Ages!  >:D

I started with a Gripping Beast "William the Conqueror" figure to keep the style of sculpting consistent with the rest of the Warband. He comes with a “cudgel” or club in his hand and I replaced it with a sword drilled and brass pinned into the hand. I then modified his horse a bit to be rearing up even more. Williams figure was cut and filed as much as possible to let him lean over and appear to be trying to get at the Viking. The hand painted shield was done at about 1 in the morning as I was about to give up for the evening o_o, I wanted to do the "Lions" thought to be his coat of arms, it should I think be on a red background but I wanted contrast with the red cape. I think it came out ok? ???

When I had received my yet to be painted Viking figures from Foundry one pack came with a bunch of figures that had been horribly miscast , looking like they had been in an explosion with bits and pieces blown off, arms faces, legs…  Foundry sent a replacement set and said keep the bad ones. I was looking at the pack on the corner of my painting table when I thought what if?.... yes with a bit of bending and cutting the useless Viking would get a new lease on life…well ok not exactly "life" as he is dead in the vignette…lol! But that gave me the basic elements of the scene. I also wanted to convey a sense of action and have the viewer be sort of able to imagine the before and after sequence of events. I had a great time building and painting this vignette and cant wait to get to my Viking armies Warlord vignette!

“William rides forward, urging his men on, slashing left and right, out of the trees a Viking Berserker leaps onto a rock surprising William, William slashes at the Viking but only knocks him back, off balance, falling on the rocks, out of Williams reach, but his Stallion as they were trained to do stomps him to death…. Battle in the Dark ages!”

Hope there aren’t too many pictures….. ::)

Sorry Admiral  ::) Beer man was meant to be Saturday, but had IT issues and orders from the Gräfin .

Love what you've done with Grani especially the shield.

Von Kluge very characterful version of 'Bill' reminded me to get a copy of Charlton Heston's the Warlord.
Very gritty.

The reason I use gloss varnish is that I have a high acid content in my sweat ( hence I wear a Titanium case wrist watch)
and have not yet ,over 35 years of looking, found a satisfactory matt varnish that will survive game handling.

Some seriously stunning additions to this thread today, chaps.
Bloody great painting all round.

With this many to go I may even get a chance to add one myself.
Hopefully....

Love "the Bastard". The detail is lovely. That free hand shield design is really the icing on a very tasty cake.

+1. Adds to the overall effect. Do you use a black back drop or do you just light it that way?
