Do we have to sign up for this somewhere or can we just post work done this week?

It's like self serve ice cream here, step up, number and post your figure, then sit back and enjoy! lol If you go to the first (or last depending on how your page views are set) you will see painting challenge rules posted by WelfIII, basically, new paint job, medieval, and only one per 24 hour period.

Very nice Viking Too Bo Coo! Welcome to the "Challenge" I love the aggressive pose of the figure. The paint is also most excellent! The same colors are nicely carried throughout the figure and shield. Is the shield a paint or transfer? either way a great look! Speaking of looking if we point the camera in the direction of the vikings gaze we will see what he is looking at!  :o

Disclaimer, "No shield transfers were used or harmed in the painting of this Mini!"

No. 164 NORMAN KNIGHT Sir Gabriel

yet another Norman from my ever growing band of SAGA Normans!  o_o

Cheers Mate!  And a fantastic Norman on your part!  The horse is excellent, just excellent.

Oh, and the shield is indeed a decal, and then I hit the bottom of it with some muddy pigments. The edges of the cloak as well as the boots have some as well.

I've been on the site for about 18 months, and it's been a wealth of knowledge.  And so great to see so many talented people show off their work.

Cheers!

Funny TBC I was just going to ask you about the great tufts you used on the Viking, what brand or where from? My basing is probably more from years of doing it, looking at natures balance, learning from others, here and there, ect. I try to balance my base to the figure, the impact of the piece should (IMO) be at least 2/3 on the figure and no more than 1/3 on the base. I use regular flocking in a mix blended to compliment the other base colors, then also a static grass blend, as well as different tufts, some bought some homemade. The figure is glued (super) to the base then blended in with a solution of Durhams Rock Hard mixed with glue and water to give a multi level ground effect. I do 5,10, or more figure at a time and the basing is done the same way in steps. ;)

Number 165: Boris der Betrunkene

This one is for Movember - and there's even a music reference in there  lol

EDIT:

No idea where that brownish sheen comes from - I'll have investigate the figure to see if it's the light that plays tricks on my camera, or if the mini has actually been polluted by me having paint residues on my fingers...   :?

I redid the side with the Bestial Brown contamination. 3rd pic has been changed to a new one.

/EDIT

Now, should I try to finish another of these spearmen, or should I paint Short Round instead...?

Nicely done.  He sports a excellent mo' to be sure!  8)

Yes.
But if there is a vote, I'm casting my lot in for Short Round!  ;)

No.166 - Viking Berserker

Seems like I managed to get another one in. The base is a bit boring, but I haven't been able to afford the grasstufts I want. So this'll be it for now.

Thanks! It's really a pain in one's backside to paint these spears and bows that are sculpted totally smooth  :)

Nicely done.  He sports a excellent mo' to be sure!  8)

Thank you! I had this one and another with a clean-shaven mug ready to choose from, and it was an opprtunity not to be missed  :D

Yes.
But if there is a vote, I'm casting my lot in for Short Round!  ;)

Short Round is standing prepped and primed on my pain(t) station, but I've actually donne most of the red on the next spearman already (I'm trying to find the paint combination for a nice red for a Forgefather DreadBall team I'm going to paint... somewhen...). I think I'll do the spearman, and see if I can get him in before next weekend, when I'm going to Horisont V.

He killed all the grass. He's that hard.

Theres a lot of ground like that in Norway and Iceland, believe me!  lol
