Schleich Toys as Fantasy Gladiators

Yeah, I know this is a primarily a painters forum, but I thought this was too good of an idea not to share.

My blog mate bought a bunch of these 3 inch tall Schleich toys that he based and created some fantasy gladiator terrain for.

The figs are huge! I wish I took some scale shots.

It's nice to see some larger scale miniatures in action. The not-so-mini minis look GREAT; AND the bases & gaming board are OUTSTANDING! GREAT STUFF!

Hammers, I get your point. But really pretty painted miniatures really seem to get everyone's attention around here.
I was a bit bashful about posting these as they weren't "properly" painted.

I have several 54mm gladiators. Prepainted plastics from a Japanese company that does collectable figures. I also have a number of Ray Harryhausen figures from the same company. Also some other Mythology figures both Medeterainean & Indian.

I'm not a gamer, but I could imagine that for gladiator style fights larger minis do work well. The fact that you don't need tons of super detailed scenery for an arena (and thus not that much storage space) is a plus as well.
Nicely done cards- simple, but effective.

If your mate ever decides to do an alternative more fantasy-ish set featuring anthropomorphic animal fighters, Papo has some. Been meaning to buy one or two to see how they'd scale up to 54mm minis:

I have seen some of those Harryhausen Figs before. They are pretty sweet.
 
I'll think I will try to get my buddy to take a couple pictures of these to show their size.

I repainted that Cyclops in the top picture and use him for a giant cyclops in my mythical games.  I've always thought large scale games were fun, but unless it's skirmishy like this you need loads of space to accomodate (and big-ass terrain).

I agree that here's primary a painting place, but... well, there are far more games than painted figures, so... why just don't use some prepainted for some games? i think that's really legit!

By the way, I feel a little dumb but i really couldn't find any info about the ruleset you used... any link-help?
