Are we tolerating now offensive regional stereotypes here?

For you, English-speakers gents, the comment says:

Smart-pants? or just cheat? It's Andalusians we're talking about...

are you overreacting or what? it was an obvious joke

Does anyone know if problems with IP could arise if they make a game, let's call it 'Quest of Heros' and then say it is compatible with HeroQuest?  The rules may be compatible, but the name is different?

Otherwise, I am not convinced they would get nearly as much support by releasing a similar game that does not have the HeroQuest name.  Are there not already many enjoyable dungeon-crawl games out there?  What is to stop the thousands of people who had gotten on board to just use those rulesets and tell themselves its a reincarnation of HeroQuest?  GZ might be able to pull it off now that they have had so much press about it, and their sculpting quality speaks for itself.  However, I think most casual observers would pass once it no longer has the brand recognition of the name 'Heroquest 25th anniversary'

IMO, most people are swayed by the image of a memorable/superior brand.  Renaming the game would strip that away and it would be just one of a multitude of options already available.

You can't do that without a licence. Ever wonder why the wooden train tracks that work with the Thomas and Friends trains say "Compatible with popular wooden trains"? If they want to reference the Thomas range they would have to license to do so. Same thing here.

They might have rights to the Heroquest name in Spain and might be able to use it in a game but the Heroquest game is copyright Hasbro and that reference to a specific product is what would cause the problem.

Not "cheat", but "clumsy". Very different thing!

Also translates out colloquially as "Cowboy" in the shoddy/amateurish work sense.  Which is totally appropriate I would suggest.

This thread, and in some parts is a train wreck. And yes, it is always alright to joke about ones own regions.

I often joke about the state of my nether regions.  lol

I don't think it should be a problem.
There is a vast number of retroclones sold as "the classic rpg in a red box" or "if you ever played a game with a d20 combat dice you already played this game" whithout getting into troubles with the owners of "the classic fantasy rpg sold in a red box and set in underground places" game.

For about £30 to £40 you can get Heroquest on ebay. Talk about a nostalgia fix. If you want, you could even buy some alternate models to use. And maybe some cool resin furniture. Maybe even swap out the board for a nice tile set or other dungeaon floorplan.

Heroquest isn't really that great a game to be honest. Advanced Heroquest on the other hand...

Third time's the charm!

According to Game Zone's twitter, it's coming back in a few days in a Spanish crowfunding page called lanzanos.com.
