Out of interest, how many highlights did you go for?

Got mine today and my god they're small  :o lol

I'll get some paint on them this afternoon hopefully  :)

That's only a couple of highlights James. They don't need much.
They're certainly a bit quicker to paint than 28mm figures - but maybe not as quick to paint as one might think!  ::)
Look forward to seeing what you come up with...

Are we all going to be pirates, or is anyone planning to be 'government'?  :D

I was tempted by the Spanish as well but I could do some Redcoats instead.

Horses, Guns, Infantry...plus a walled city! No ships mind you

Bit of a while without an update on this thread so a few pics of my scant progress  ;)

Have assembled the bulk of the 1/150 Heller Corsair.  Waterlining was an interesting exercise though I'll add a very close base with some waves to cover the imperfections.

I do plan to add a couple of sails from the kit.

I will be adding some fixed crew in place and have set aside 18 figures as a mix of gunners and other crew (including musketeers who can be modified to appear to be pulling ropes etc).  In the meantime, a shot of my landing party aboard ship:

The aerial view shows the space aboard deck to accommodate the minis on washers.  There's room for a few more washers with the spaces in between where I'll fix the boat crew.

The landing party on their 20mm dia bases.  The left (as viewed) washer has the command group, the middle two are musketeers, and the right is melee weapons.  For the melee weapons, Pendraken do a SYW labourers pack with pickaxes that are easily converted to axes.

My LAF Gallery is HERE
Minis (foot & mounted) finished in 2025 = 74
(2024 = 38; 2023 = 151; 2022 = 204; 2021 = 123; 2020 = ???)

That ships going to look rather fine I feel  8)

Is that Buxton bottle your secret stash of superglue?  ;)

I'll prime mine tomorrow I think, had a slight loss of mojo over the past few days but we'll see  :)

cheers

Sarcastic bugger!  I only use 1l bottles for the superglue...... lol

Yeah the boat has come out rather well.  I made a few mods for gaming purposes, for example leaving off a second mast and dropping the deck hatches for a level floor.  I think I will have to replace the flagpole at the stern with a metal one but the mast is robust (and has a lump of greenstuff inside the hull to stabilize it.

With the fixed crew in place, there'll be deck space for 6 of the 20mm washers so plenty of room for me to be boarded (if you recall our gaming history, I lose ships).

I can see how these models take the ship fanatics months to build. Mine took a pleasant 4 or 5 hours but I did leave out unnecessary fiddly stuff.   Before I start painting I will fix the crew in place and set the sails.

I am hoping that whatever rules we use will allow me to be faster and to work in shallower water..... Otherwise I risk being outgunned!

Glad the mojo is returning ... Pm inbound  ;)

Interesting that you're attaching the crew permanently, how are you going to record your catastrophic loses  lol

We'll have to have a get together before crimbo and chat about rules etc.

Watching the 'people' on the Jeremy Kyle show lets you remember that it could be a whole lot worse  lol

cheers

Did we decide the Heller corsair is the most viable vessel? Or are there any other suitable craft in the right scale? (Thinking about my Crimbo pressie list... )

Haven't checked leaks yet but a few pics showing first sail added, chamfered base and first of the fixed crew......

Greenstuff waves will fill gaps and lookout on the prow

First of the 4 sets of 3 gunners plus captain with telescope

Top sail in place plus mast lookout and a few of the landing party aboard

Some links with 1/150 ships for checking out

Basically bigger has more firepower but is slower in the water, more expensive to buy and longer to build.  I am inclined towards a small fleet of 2 or 3 corsairs though I might up gun one .... Still thinking tho!  Bigger should also require more crew and be allowed a bigger landing party.
