First "Live" game tomorrow, any tips??
« on: October 17, 2013, 05:17:09 PM »
Craig etal,
I've got the table set for my first live game of IHMN tomorrow with my son in law.  I decided to keep it pretty simple, here is the scenario I came up with -
1895 -  Purgatory, AZ

Agents of the US Secret Service have learned of  a plot unfolding in the SW Unite States, involving Mexico, Germany and assorted disaffected Southerners.  The German government is offering to equip the Syndicate Criminale with the most modern rifles the German Arms industry can produce.  The meeting and exchange of funds is to occur in the town of Purgatory.  Rather than risk an international incident and global war at this juncture, the Government has chosen to allow local authorities to handle the matter.
The Syndicate is meeting in the upper rooms of the Purgatory Dance Hall, and there are several armed Desperadoes guarding the proceedings.  The Purgatory Vigilance Committee has made plans to move on the meeting, breaking it up and capturing or killing the participants.

The Vigilance Committee has 12 figures, the Syndicate 10, as they will be mostly in cover.  I was going to not use any gadgets for the first game.  Any tips?
                                                               Nick

Make sure you don't have too many figures with great Pluck saves, it's better to kill and be killed :)
So many projects..... so little time.......

Good tips, thanks.  I have most of the Pluck numbers at 3+, should I up the to 4 or 5?

3+ is tough. For characters not so bad, but ordinary troops should be 4+ to 6+.

Thanks for the tips.  Hey Craig, I've been meaning to ask, I am familiar with your name from the past.  Were you by any chance involved with the original version of AAs Firefight rules?

Not that I remember. But I am the original author of FUBAR and Forge of War.

Volley Fire is easy to forget, but can certainly come in handy.

Pluck rolls are easy to forget, but are always handy.

If it comes down to playing conservatively, or charging in recklessly, I trust you know what to do.

Use cover to the extent possible. It's amazing how often an extra one or two makes a difference.

Due to various circumstances, we only managed a single fairly shot game.  It worked well though.  I kept the characters pretty basic, just street clothes, and no special weapons.  The volley fire came in handy and may have turned the tide.

Splendid. As we used to say in the British Armed Services, you have seen the elephant!
