Station 42 Phase 2. More like a space port
« on: November 06, 2013, 07:44:19 AM »

I've started phase 2 of my Station 42 terrain layout.  You can see the end result of phase 1 here:  http://ironworkersminiatures.blogspot.com/2012/01/station-42-phase-1-complete.html

I've never been really happy with the layout or the fact that we never had any landing pads for space ships.  We have changed the layout completely and added some landing pads made from painted cork.

You can find a much more detail description of this new phase of the project here: http://ironworkersminiatures.blogspot.com/2013/11/station-42-phase-2.html

This is just a rough layout of what we have in mind but we are already much happier with the look and feel of it.  I will be adding a lot more progress pictures to this thread but as always I will have even more on my blog.  Stay tuned!

I finished painting the tarmac today.  I think it came out really well.  This is probably the easiest terrain project I have ever done but certainly not the cheapest.  I went through about 6 packs of cork tile and 5 cans of spray paint.

I actually forgot one section.  I intended to make a piece to sit under the refinery behind the Venture Star offices but I can knock that out easily enough tomorrow.

I added triangle pieces to the landing pads to make them look more interesting and I think it also helps delineate the roads.

Very cool! I like the practicality of it all, and the recycled stuff  :)

Looking good, as usual! How did you paint the tarmac? - black overcoat then white overspray?

Lovely as always - your table look a real pleasure to play on, and your collection of spaceships just finishes the whole thing off.

Great looking board! I really like the ship in pictures 3 and 4 of the thread! Where did you get it or was it scratch built?

The grey one was purchased years ago.  This brown one was one my wife scratch built over the summer for a Star Wars campaign that got stalled.  We still haven't painted it.  It looks much cooler in person.  I hope to get it painted soon but it's a pretty big undertaking.
