High Noon - 28mm Wild West game
« on: 07 November 2013, 08:10:33 AM »
Hi all

A mate and me played a intro game of Legends of the Old West (ex-GW rules) the other week at the Auckland Wargames club in NZ. We played a classic High Noon scenario with a shootout in the main street of the Mexican border town called El Segundo. The battle was between Mexican Banditos and a Chinese Tong gang (The TIng Tong gang) and the winner got to open a new takeaway shop on the main street. The fighting was fierce with both sides losing half their posse before the Chinese decided to head for the hills voluntarily (it was a campaign game and heavy losses can hurt).

The 28mm figures and terrain are all mine with the Mexcians a mix of Artisan, Old Glory and Foundry. The Chinese are a mix of Pulp Figures and foundry. The buildings are all scratch built from cardboard, foamboard, balsa, cocktail and ice block sticks, plasticard and some large tie-wraps for the shutters.

The table layout (the railway is the edge of the table) from the Chinese end

A Chinese Coolie and Gang fighter advancing

Banditos gaining control of the main street while the Chinese tried to sneak around the outside.

Chinese Hatchetman (hero) Mi Fuk Long waits patiently with his rifle

The Mexican end of the table

The Mexicans making use of the cover while they wait.

The Chinese Hatchet Man "Sum Ting Wong"  and a Coolie outflanking the Bandito leader.

A Mexican standoff. The Chinese have tried to outflank the Mexican and gain some advantage, but the guy on the roof eventually got taken out.

Thanks all for looking, Not as many pictures a I would have liked as the game was pretty close and I forgot to take more pictures.

Cheers
Kieran

Lovely looking table and minis.  LOTOW is what got me into Wild West gaming (though I abandoned it shortly thereafter).  Great pictures!

Thanks guys, glad you like it.

They are from the cheap Fastlane/ Goldlok train sets that someone here recommended. If you find the thread there is lots of info. I mounted the tracks on 3mm MDF and added some ballast.

Hi Kieran, thanks for posting this, I really like your buildings, you seem to have got the colour just right for down at heal adobe. The reference to cable ties went right over my head until I looked again, brilliant idea. The tiles on the church roof, presumably you bought these, who is the manufacrurer, they are much bigger than the ones I've seen commercially.
All the best
John

I do hope that Chinese hatchetman's lady friends have sufficient patience to put up with him.

Nice buildings!  Figures are pretty snappy, too.  Love this kind of skirmish...sneaking around and blazing away.   :)

Beautiful figures and terrain! Too bad you didn't live closer, because I would love to game with your buildings. Do you do commission work?

Occasionally but I live in NZ so postage to the rest of the world can be a problem. Otherwise if you come to NZ I'm sure I can organise a game  :)
