Stunning!

Cheers, mate.

If you ever fancy doing another water tower please let me know  ;)

I did not make the water tower, Adam, I just based and repainted it a little.
All the hard work was done by Bobble.

You could ask him if he fancies making another.
 ;)

I think that I have finally settled on the best set-up for BLAM, with the Railroad track running down the main street of the Town.
That way it should add a little more fun to proceedings should the Iron Horse come to town mid-game.
 ;)

Piccies of the set-up in question later......

First, I really like what you have done with the railroad track, it looks great. Now I have a question, all the buildings I see are mounted which elevates them significantly above the level of the ground. Will you be mounting your railroad station that same way? If you are then your tracks are going to be significantly lower than the station platform.

I'm talking this idea through, I haven't tried it. I see in the photos that you mounted small bits of cardboard so you can glue the ground cover between the rails. Which looks good, but what looks odd to me is that there is no ballast between the ties. The ballast also extends a bit beyond the end of the ties as well which means your rails are basically laid directly on the ground. If you took a couple pieces of matt board per section you could elevate that rails higher and include both ballast and weeds. I'm thinking that the first piece of matt board extends out to the edge of the ties and runs the full length of that section of track. The next piece extends out from that maybe on 3-4m extra on either side (maybe file or sand down the outside edge). Take some spackle and apply it along the edge to give it a little slope. Then glue ballast between the rails and out to the edge of the matt board. Remember the three engineering rules for good track is drainage, drainage and more drainage, that's why tracks are elevated above the ground level, well most of the time, there are plenty track at ground level. But there is always some kind of ballast that comes up to the tops of the ties. Apply additional ground cover as desired. Just a thought.

Heisler: This is just a quick fix for now, so that a black piece of plastic is not sitting on the table looking like just that.

I will eventually be adding baseboards to the track pieces, with the appropriate detailing etc.

I do eventually plan to make a Creek as well, so will need a small bridge to span it too, but all that is for the future, as I am running out of time to get everything done in time for October.
Some things will have to added after BLAM, the Creek for one.

Therefore I will be taking a few 'shortcuts' when it comes to getting this onto the table.

Thank you very much for the thoughts and ideas.

The 'New, Improved Set-Up' for BLAM ( ;)), with the track running through the centre of town.

As mentioned previously, this should add an extra chaotic element when the Iron Horse comes to Town.

It's a great layout. Your set up really looks the part, it makes for a believable town.

Great looking layout.
I think the rail tracks through the centre of town brings them more into the game than being on the periphery. It gives the potential for allsorts of things to happen, with moving cover, gunfighters arriving or leaving, lots of baggage, cattle etc.

Lets hope I can keep it looking that way.

I hope that you are right, as that is indeed the plan.

Thanks, Edge.
Much appreciated.

The board is 4'x4'.

No, Matt, they are not.
They are a mix of resin cast-on roofs, textured plasticard and card or MDF shingles.

Lovely set up, I was thinking of putting my track on the outskirts which seemed nicer but perhaps straight down the middle seems a more this town sprang up from the railroad and might die quickly realism! Really I need to set up my table and decide what buildings to keep and what to get rid of, then I can decide.

But the track thrpugh the twon centre does seem nice.

There was one western town that was counting on the railway to bring prosperity to it, only to find that the final route chosen took the tracks some 10 miles away from the town. They held a town meeting at which someone suggested 'Moving the town to the railroad' and they did !!!! Now that is some 'Get up & go' attitude.

Looking mighty fine Paul! Now, about that Iron Horse...  ;)

Now you need to keep the same set-up/layout every time you game old west, otherwise it won't be the same Upsheet Creek :)

Are you planning on some form of campaign rules for it all?
