Another five telephone poles have joined the original lot. I added an extra top piece to two of these ones to mix them up a bit (the ones in the game all have these bits broken off so as to resemble a real crucifix better. I guess these ones are more like Russian Orthodox crosses or something). I've also had a go at adding some string to them, which doesn't look too horrible, though it was a right bother to tie that around the double bar one. At the moment I have four people strung up (two generic women, two Chinese Remnants-still in need of greenstuff), and I'll probably go for a pair of NCR troopers too for variety.

"Always look on the bright side of life..."  :)

Are those transistor things attached to the rebar supposed to be hollow or do they have caps btw? Mine are hollow right now, but I'm just wondering in case I'm missing out on a detail (I don't have the game installed to check unfortunately).

I usually paint the primary colours onto a model, giver those each a bit of ink in their respective colours, then go over those with a lighter shade of those colours. After that I go around the edges with some black and apply a few light specks to the odd bit. I've never been an amazing painter, so that's as best as I can throw out without learning a better way unfortunately. Though particularly I my pallet's made up mostly of browns, creams and oranges, and I find that I don't deal with the darker shades of those too well (ie that Raider in Leather Armour). I guess I'm still developing a style, and at least my better paint jobs are miles ahead of what I was churning out a few years ago (before I discovered the wonderful world of ink washes).

Wyrmalla, you should try to give your figures a coat of matt varnish to take away the gloss appearance.
Easiest is Army Painter Anti-Shine spray cans, but you can just as well use brush on varnishes ; ModelMasters Dullcote is awesome stuff (though solvent based), Valejo or Gunze Sangyo are water based.

@ zizi666

I'd prefer to avoid solvents, so it'd be the regular stuff out of a paint pot. I'll try it out, though knowing myself I'll gunk up one of my models through applying too much. =P

With all these uncouth Raiders and poor folk strung up on crosses, here's a pair of modern women about the house to bring a bit of civility to this blog.

Yup, rolling pins. The deadliest of household implements indeed.

Do you have any of the female survivors to mix with them zombies?

I got the box, but having put about 13 of them together.. I'm sick of the idea of repetition.

Lovely profligate-propper-uppers. c:

I meant to buy some of the Survivors at a show a few weeks ago, but for some reason none of the stalls were selling them (whereas last year the place was choc a bloc with WGF boxes). I'd like to buy a box, as at the moment I need to make more female models and I'm running short on bits left on the zombie sprue. Meh, if I don't find any at the next show at the start of June I'll probably just have my local shop order me a set (eugh, though if the box of WGF Russians I had them order are anything to go by, it'll be a while before they turn up).

Initially with the male survivors I built the models essentially as is (barring greenstuffing on balaclavas, changing poses, etc). However now I feel like I  should just use WGF models as armatures pretty much. I mean I could spend the time sculpting something from scratch, or just use some generic looking models as a base instead (pity about all the heads being the same, but I have plenty of Warlord blister packs handy. ...Mostly the beardy ones though, but I suppose nobody has time to shave).

* Edit.

Oh, and btw I've messed with those telephone poles a little. I only had an one image to go by, so I tried to copy it as well as I could. What I didn't realise is that those transistor things actually come in sets of four, not just the two at either end of the girder. So I swapped around the placement of the transistors on some of the poles for some variety. Yeah, I've also noticed that the girders are too short, but I can't do anything about that now unfortunately. Whatever, they're based now and ready for painting (bar the profligates, of which there is five now. I still need to greenstuff on some armour to the NCR guy and the Chinese Remnants Concript and Commando).

That is exactly what I did with the Vault Survivor that I made for my PA Painting club entry.  It works well.  The only issue is the extreme poses some of them are in will require heavy modification if you want to change them, and make several figures look same-y if you don't.

Love what you are doing with the crucifixes.  What parts are you using for the Chinese Remnant ghouls?

Oh hey Taarnak, I didn't realise that was you. ;)

I've been replacing bits and pieces with parts from other kits and reposing where I can with the WGF models. I don't know if I've duplicated many of the bodies on multiple models as of yet, but if I have its not noticeable. Ah, but I do have about ten NCR Troopers (who really need to be replaced with newer models armed with proper service rifles) based on the GI models, but them being more standardised military models means that any similarity between them isn't as horrible as with the rag tag Raider groups.

The Chinese Remnants are at their base WGF Russians. The zombie heads are either Maxi Minis ones, or in the case of that picture a Brother Vinni zombie Japanese one. For the guns, for those who're carrying them, their from the Statureque Miniatures weapon packs. Oh, and the Commando's backpacks are also Maxi Mini. The rest's greenstuff. Here's a picture of some Commandos from ages ago.

@ Brummie Thug

Ooh, ooh! Thanks for that link mate. If I don't pick up a set at the next show I'll buy them from there, as other than the WGF models, that site has a decent range of obscure and interesting toys. Heh, Batarian Husks from Mass Effect!

I had another body sitting on my table (which sounds quite macabre), so I thought I may as well do something with her, resulting in this fine lady. Those M79 Grenade Launchers have been sitting unused for a bit too, and their a nice weapon to use given their New Vegas appearance (its not obvious, but in her left hand is a shell that she's loading). Anyway, to go along with the Crucifixes here's ...I donno an escaped slave or something who's looted some Legion armour, as she's sure as hell not a Legionaire. Hmn, I suppose she could turn up as a mercenary or something if I ever use her in a game, who knows?

* Oh, and that's the same model as the one I'm using on the Painspike Raider. Sure if I was using the same body on a few models it'd be noticeable, but I think I'm still blagging a bit of variety with the poses at the moment.

'ere, right, two NCR Military Police officers. They're based on a mod which changes the appearance of the NCR armours a bit in case you're wondering why they aren't a like for like recreation (though hell, when do I ever try and emulate things 100%). Those Cattle Prods were a right bugger to put together (I'm talking about the little twists of wire at the end), which is why I'm leaving them as they are before I take a hammer to the models.

Anyway, perhaps something that could be expanded on in future, but for the moment I just wanted to put together some more NCR guys. I guess they could be used in scenarios involving prisoner rescue, or against civilians or soldiers that're having a bit of a ruckus.

Hey y'all. So I have a game arrange for next week and I'm thinking I could do with some Fallout tokens for that (the 7Tv rules I'm using are choc full of bloody tokens). Right, so I could go make some card ones in the style of the original 7Tv ones, or I could go for something a bit more interesting (as I've seen on a few other blogs). To that end I've just bought a bag of bottle caps to turn into various different token types hopefully (ie Nuka Cola/Sunset Sarsaparilla ones would represent the commonly used tokens, Quantum for Objectives, etc). So, this is just me updating you fine folks on what's happening the wonderful world of me.

...Imagine those with fancy logos on them. Oh come on they'll look fine! Hmph, whatever, screw you guys.

Yeah, but I have tons of coursework to get through, so nout progress occurred today. A package turned up today from the Bazaar, which amongst other things includes models that I'll be using as young Wanamingos, Tribals, a *not Mad Max, and a few buzz saws that'll look great on Raiders. Yup, and that's your fill. Summer's soon, so plenty of days hidden away from the light in my bedroom are upcoming. :)

Because painting can become a bit dull, I stuck together these to do something more interesting. They're still missing one more detail in the middle, as is the greenstuff still soft so I can't tidy it up quiet yet. But yeah, a few frag mines to annoy players (well unless they pass an agility test and pick one up). I could camouflage them a bit, but I'd rather avoid losing the things on the table after a game.

Besides painting up some little bits to tart up my terrain collection I've given some of my older stuff a do over so they look a bit more up to scratch for my next game. The NCR Troopers will probably be retired though for newer ones with better sculpted armour and actual Service Rifles instead of the M1 Garands they have right now. Eugh, my Knights in particular need a bit of work, but I've only worked on the ones needed for the scenario that I'm running, as there's other more important things to finish.

A flamingo.

Post Apocalyptic gardens need more of those.
As do golf courses.

The caps sound fun. Make sure you do one or two blue star caps for those special occasions.
