Black, I think.

I was going to do red, but this is VSF and therefore red=British.

Or possibly some really violent, sickly, insect-ish colour.

Hard to know really - it has to be Victorian in essence, even though the machinery is fictional. Colour is a big part of that.

Still thinking. Suggestions are welcome!

Copper patina and a silver might look quite good together with a few twiddly bits in gold.

My first step when deciding colours for VSF vehicles/constructs is traction engines and trains. The majority are red or green but there are a few in yellow and blue, but the way the trim interacts with the rest of the colour is what you're actually looking for.
