MacDonald Douglas Frasers Steel Bonnets a history of the Reivers is a must have

http://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Steel-Bonnets-Anglo-Scottish-Reivers/dp/0002727463

he also has a small ficitonal book called the canfdlemass road and in the vein of yellow beard and 3 musketeers the "Reavers"

The Ospreys arent too shabby.

I moderate steel Bonnets Yahoo group which has rules in the files etc. Quite quiet. I started it up with the chap from Monolith a good few years ago (must be at least 6 or so years) when the orignal one died the death. Quite Quiet on there though

http://uk.groups.yahoo.com/group/steelbonnets2/

I think I have 2 copies of steel bonnets, drop me your address and I will pop iot in the post :D

Figures, Outpost though a little old school. SOme of the foundry swashbucklers are ideal, search here for some Captain Blood inspriation too and some of the ECW figures. Some fo the French wars of religion figures are able to be used from Old glory

The Reivers by Alistair Moffat is also a decent read, but The Steel Bonnets is pretty much THE book on the subject, as others have said.

The first Osprey to buy is probably Men-at-Arms 279 "The Border Reivers"  ;)

MacDonald Fraser is the standard work on the Reivers. Moffat's book is a very good read as well.

You should try to get your hands on Border Ballads by James Reed. Picked it up in Carlisle last year. Very inspirational!

I forgot. Also while in Carlisle I bought de DVD "Debateable Lands", a TV documentary hosted by George MacDonald Fraser himself and Eric Robson (yes, from THE Robsons).

It has some great stories, great athmosphere AND filmed images the grave of Kinmont Willie!

In addition to the above I'd grab the Osprey Warrior 154 "Border Reivers 1513-1603". Not only is it an excellent text in its own right, but the photographs of re-enactors of the period and their equipment are especially good and useful.
