Hello from Massachusetts
« on: 06 December 2013, 04:34:01 PM »
Hello.  I joined this forum (thanks for accepting me) to get more inspiration for my ongoing 28mm projects. I'm working on the Second Anglo-Afghan war, early imperial Romans, late Romans, etc. Most of my other minis (esp. wwii stuff) are in 1/72.

I see already there's quite a lot of talent and knowledge here...  and lots to read up on.  I think it will take me quite  a while just to catch up on the relevant old posts and gallery photos.

Hello and welcome to the boards.

I do like the Second Anglo-Afghan period. I've mainly collected the old-type "25mm" minis, Pathans and British, with a good representation of Highlanders and Indians.

I find 1/72 to be tricky to paint; not impossible to gain good results, but not easy with the bendy parts.

Thanks, Sendak. I also have quite a few Gordons and Sikhs/Punjabis/Gurkas. My British/Indian force is reasonably sized (500+ figures) and I have double that number of Afghans with half being regular Afghan army and half Pathan/Afridi/etc. tribesmen.

I would love to see your Ral Partha NWF figures - is there  a picture or two of them in the gallery?  I really like their figures generally and it's too bad that scale creep has rendered them incompatible with more recent makes.  Mine are almost all Foundry (Perry sculpts) so closer to true 25mm than the 28mm-32mm giants we see out there now, including some of the new Perry minis (which I mix in all the same).

1/72 is not too hard to paint to a decent standard which is good for massed armies. Most figures also have pretty good anatomical proportions which is somewhat important to me.
