Questions about Bagpipes in all their glory.
« on: December 18, 2013, 03:06:50 PM »
Craig or anyone who has used them.

I am or my second simple company going to make a Black watch group using Perry Miniature's Sudan line and I am going to be including a piper. So my highlanders can take highland fury for three points as long as there is a 16 point piper I have figured this much out. The questions are as follows;
Does that 16 point piper also benefit from new bagpipe rules or does he need to have his points modified to consider the new rules?
New rule
Bagpipes; the playing of the pipes gives the Piper the equivalent of the Inspirational talent. However, while playing the pipes the Piper cannot run, shoot or fight. A set of bagpipes costs 7 points.
Secondly for the unit to use Highland furry does the piper have to be charging forward with them or just playing somewhere?
Finally I have friends who are excellent pipers bagpipes and I love hear them play and you can hear them for kilometres but I wonder if there is a certain distance the piper has to be from the highlanders in order for them to receive the benefits? A line of hearing so to speak.

Finally and this is for my enjoyment of the unit and because I am a research nut the Blackwatch Piper can be equipped with a sword.  As many still carried family blades during the Sudan conflict. My friend is a regimental piper in the Canadian military and still carries her family blade with her dress uniform and well on parade.

From playing drum in a pipe band I´d say, but this is only my personal opinion and experience, the piper could be located anywhere on the table to be heared very well all over it. It´s some noise from a skirmish and no regimental fire on a full scale battlefield, isn´t it?

I agree 100% with this.

... and having experienced several hours of bagpipe playing during a re-enactment battle, I can attest that you hear the pipes for several hours after they've stopped playing too!
