Any "Skirmish Sangin" players?
« on: January 05, 2014, 02:36:01 AM »
All,
I've been reading about these rules.  There is a good website and the authors seem very reachable.  I'm just not sure about the rules though.  They seem good but very detailed, and designed for a fire team per player max.  Has anyone played them who can offer some insight?

A few of us at the club have played. We tried one of the Scenarios in the book and it was great fun. When an IED went off and wounded two paras the mission changed from assaulting and clearing a compound to evac and one well placed RPK pinned down a vast number of NATO forces.

It is very much a fire team level game as you said where each man has personality and a large quantity of actions available. The rules are a little difficult to remember but once you start playing you realize they are well thought through and capture the flavour of combat very well. My only criticism is the lack of scenarios but one can write some simply by reading up on real world engagements. It would be good to keep in mind when doing that, that the insurgents should not have to stay bogged down in a firefight in order to "win" and engagement.

I have done but a slight approach to the rules, as I hope to play it anytime soon. It looks complex to me, but I concur -it has tons of real life combat flavour. Really eager to finally test it.
