The Garrick Club, Active Membership
I was looking to pool some of the odder figures in my VSF collection into a suitable Company, particularly those character filled Lead Adventures figures. A company of actors seemed to fit the bill.
The Garrick Club, established in 1831, is a Gentleman’s club devoted the theatrical arts. The Club was named in honour of the eminent actor David Garrick whose acting and management at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane in the previous century, had by the 1830s come to represent a golden age of British drama. Its current membership runs like a Who’s Who of the Green Room of the 1890’s. Any and all thespians of note or notoriety count themselves as members and can be more often than not found lounging in the private clubhouse purpose built in a reclaimed slum on what is now known as Garrick Street.
When the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of churlish men threaten the performing arts and artists of the Empire, the club’s Active Membership will be called into action. The Active Members are club members, not currently performing, that have volunteered to be the club’s foot soldiers in the fight against artistic repression by the forces of evil.
Throughout its ranks the active members fall into two basic classes: Thespians and Greensmen. Thespians are the actors while Greensmen is the term used to identify Stage Managers and Stage Hands. A particular Company of Active members will take the name of a favorite Shakespeare play. Our example below uses Troilus & Cressida
Members in the Thespian class typically go into battle masked and take on Shakespearean pseudonyms to protect their public personas.
Options:
• Priam may exchange his pistol for an Arc Pistol
• The Stage Manager may exchange his pistol for a Congreve Rocket Gun (+4 points)
• Any Gaffer may exchange his Military Rifle for a Shotgun (-4 points)
• Any Gaffer may purchase the Marksman talent (+5 points)
• Any model may purchase
Stage Armour for +1 point as long as the armor is actually depicted on the figure. Stage Armour confers no benefit but may used to confuse your opponent about what the figure is equipped with. The player may wax falsely about a model's armor until it comes time to roll dice to hit.
New Talent, Indeed; Sir: Endlessly working with actors has given Greensmen something of a thick skin. Models with this talent are not affected by the Erudite Wit talent. Cost: 3 points
