Splodge on red/brown paint and then a couple of layers of Tamiya clear red.

You may be quite right - I couldn't find a good image of what colour the seats should be, so pretty much stuck with the same as the rest of the carriage. Did you find a picture.

Ahhh, I'm seeing loads of Sudan inspiration around the Blogoshpere, which reminded me that I've not posted my last few bits up.
