Lovely work and great photography!  :-*

There's nothing quite like a good dungeon.

Looking forward to more!

Dwarves and beer go well togehter, but what about trickery and thievery? According to an expert in this field, Bailey Silverbell, they are a perfect match. She has the nose for gold and gems and helps her fellow craftsmen to find those precious stones.

As you can see she also finds old dank dungeons infested by Duergar. Gladly she has a sharp blade and mastered the art of surprising her opponent.

I really like this miniature and I think she turned out nicely.

Especially her face is well sculpted and almost paints itself.

More pictures and a detailed review as always on my  Blog.

Gandwarf is next in the pipeline.

Constructive criticism and praise always welcome.

Your paint-job on that figure is beautiful - the face is so expressive. I'm gobsmacked.

Now I have to try it for myself... Gotta love Bones - $2.20 USD for a Werner Klocke character figure!
from Mr.Vampire: "It's the paintjob that makes the miniature fight harder not the size."

The Halfing Babe turned out WONDERFULLY. Her face is LOVELY & expressive; the colors you chose are subdued, but warm & attractive. AND your brushwork is OUTSTANDING...all you need is a mushroom or two on the base. VERY WELL DONE!

Now this is the reason I browse LAF every day; your stuff is really, really beautiful en enormously inspiring.  :-*

I can only hope that one day I will be in the position to create something like that (time and space deprivation; my house is like a hobby black hole ;) )

I can only echo the sentiments regarding the trees; they're excellent. I am really of the mind that at 'our' scale (i.e. 1/56), individual leaves should be visible on trees, however, most will settle for coloured foam and/or moss. I've tried the dried herbs method myself, but I've found it way too fragile to be used outside of simple display. Not gaming material at all, not even with half a dozen layers of varnish.

So; are your trees robust enough for gaming? Because I've chosen to work with vintage Britain's Trees products. They're robust and have enough detail, but they're expensive and not nearly as natural looking as yours...

Also, of your trial walls, I like the larger part at the top of your last picture (on page 1) the best; it looks the most natural. Must be the impression of mortar between the stones. Which method did you use for that one?

And the halfling is a beauty. She just made my 'have-to-get-sometime' list.

Please keep going, because you're providing some serious eye-candy here... 8)
Miniatures you say? Well I too, like to live dangerously...

@SBRPearce: Thank you! If you live in the states it is even a better deal, as Reaper has some very fair shipping costs.

@DeafNala: Thank you as well. I thought about adding a mushroom and might do so. I also thought of some ceramic shards or something like this. I am very pleased with the face, especially after Freja's face came out not as nice as I hoped.

@Daeothar: Thank you very much for your kind words. I am sure you could fit a small setup in your place :). I live in a very small apartment and just store the stuff in a shelf.

I use MiniNatur foliage nets for the trees. These nets are surprisingly robust and the trees stood up to wargaming so far. Here and there one or two leaves fall off, but you can collect them and use them for bases. The only catch is, if you want bigger trees, that MiniNatur stuff is not cheap. It is - in my opninion - superior to any other product and worth every cent.

I did experiment with herbs, foam etc. and found either the texture not realistic enough or stability insufficient.

The tree trunks are made of wire covered with Permafiller. This adds a slight flexibility, so it won't crack and you can bend them a bit. Perfect for handling during a game. I plan to make a step-to-step tutorial on my blog in some point.

The large piece is the one made entirely of Styrofoam. I think the flatter stones look indeed best. I might try to flatten them a bit after I cut them out of the stone to achieve a similar effect to the foam. I used dry pigment and rubbed it in the crevises, followed by pigment fixer to set them.

Bailey is an outstanding miniature, but my real favourite will follow this week. :)

Greetings,

as I mentioned in my last post I finally came around to finish my favourite Bones miniature: Gandwarf. I was first a bit sceptical about a dwarven mage, but the miniature is just beautiful and a pleasure to paint. I thought I add some simple free hand designs on the hat band and his robe.

In dungeons deep and mountains cold, only death they found, deprived of gold.

More pictures, a review of the miniature and a list of the colours used you find as always on my Blog

That is a GREAT mini with an OUTSTANDING paint job & base. The action scene/Group Portrait is a WONDERFUL photo. VERY WELL DONE on all counts!

This project is really shaping up.  I am stunned by the little lass though.  You have really painted her well.  She is the highlight so far.
This is my boomstick!

After a bit of downtime from the actual dungeon and some painting of a Barbarian (hopefully to be finished soon) I finally got to make a first attempt at the modular dungeon tiles. The project at hand is a small crypta piece, with more to come in the future. I got my inspiration from the Skyrim underground cryptas, but it also reminds me of some of the crypts in Italy.

However, this is what I did over the weekend and this evening:

The whole basic structure is a styrofoam sandwich. The walls are part air drying clay, part woodfiller. The floor stones are self sculpted and I made a press mold of the piece to have an endless supply of stone floors. So far so good, but the soil is missing isn't it?

The soil effect I'll cover with some fine soil to finish it off and naturally the gaps between the stones need to be filled with soil, too.

The alcoves obviously need some skeletons in them and the smaller open ones will take some sacrifical offerings. I thought of candles, bowls, little statuettes etc.

Comments as always welcome. I am especially interested if the stone texture is convincing or if I should carve and chip a bit more? I went for a stone that shows strata.

The Cavern/Catacomb does look TERRIFIC! I can picture coffins &/or bones in the niches...with accompanying treasure. GREAT WORK!

Great thread! That crypt is looking sooooo cool! I can't wait to see it finished. Also, I love the low light "atmospheric" photos! Really brings it all to life!

Thank you guys. I'll be interested how it turns out, too ;). My first Dwarvenforge style modul so far. I might add some styrene sheet on the sides and bottom to give it a sturdy and professional looking finish.
