WSS Uniform question

A bit of a generic uniform / equipment query...

Would the average Marlburian infantryman's sword hang off his hip or be worn behind over his bottom?

There seems to be no consensus between ranges, and am a little confused as to which if either is right.

It was carried by a baldric and wasn't fixed in place. So I'd expect it to naturally settle on the hip.
