Plastic world war one! Finally!
« on: January 30, 2014, 10:22:06 PM »
Victrix miniatures just announced that they are going to do 28mm plastic miniatures for the first world war!
First they will release Brittish and Germans, followed by French.

Straight from their front page:

Quote
Next we have a bit of a 28mm WW1 surprise for you! WW1 British and Germans are being worked on at present for a dual release followed by heavy weapons and characters and then followed by French. Julian has been pushing for this period for a long time (since we began 6 years ago I think!) Bob is doing a lovely job on these. This is just a teaser to wet the appetite so a few more images next week. Keep watching for updates of this exciting new period for us.

Even though I already have a metal German platoon by Great War miniatures and a Russian platoon by Musketeer I can't wait for these to come out. Even though it will be a while yet as soon as they bring out the French I am sold.

Interesting. Rather a lot of kit bashing possibilities with these me thinks.

Now that's some welcome news.

Already have the Western Front Royal Naval Division, "Fightin' Sailors" (as if there is any other sort). :)

Thanks for the tip!

This is rather good news. I wonder, if they will go with head variant options on the sprue, so you can do early war as well. The fact that the tenders don't seem to show the gas mask carrier might suggest so. I doubt I would be able to resist a box or two of these, even thoigh my overall interest in the period dropped off some time ago.

I’m kind of wondering how the final products will look like. I know Victrix figures are usually pretty nice but, that being said, I haven’t seen any release from them since they switched to computer assisted 3D sculpting. I hope quality of the final product will be has good has it was with their previous releases :?

Wrong size for my future but I will be more likely tempted when I see the French, some Austrian-Hungarians, some Russians, and some 1915-1915 figures.

Gracias,

with the french they would be well advised to plan in advance for Interwar too, with so little in uniform, equipment and weapons changing.
head options would be very welcome too and gas gear optional as well

My thoughts exactly.
Those computer renders don't look right to me - their necks appear to be missing and the figures look both strangely beefy and weirdly neatly dressed...  :(
Brilliant idea for WW1 plastics, but I hope the end product is better than these look...

Can't say they do anything for me. They look odd, but I am struggling to articulate quite why. Apart from the fact that they seem to have filled their lower jacket pockets with soil for some reason. That'll do for starters.

Well we know they would have one customer for sure. Don't know if they would consider that enough.  :)

Their proportions are too realistic for 28mm. These heads will be just too small.

After the Victrix hoplites disappointment I wouldn't expect too much.

Somehow that just seems "wrong" but I don't know why...

 lol lol lol

I agree - not only should the heads be a bit larger, but higher on the neck
I am not that enthused by the renders either....
