Help making rules/points for a figure.
« on: 08 February 2014, 09:33:04 AM »
Hello all, long time reader here but I've just joined up to ask you spiffing gentlemen for some advice as i'm having a bit of a quandary.

I have a figure that I want to work out a points cost for but no rules really fit.

The model is a mechanical (steam) horse without a rider, instead it has an arc generator rig on it's back, and a clockwork buzz saw tail.

Ideally I want the thing to be quite mobile and have an FV so I've been looking at way to create the rules and only really have 2 options.

1) Cost the figure up a a character on foot with high Armour and pluck and give it +2 speed. So it can move 8" (inc Arc generator) - the problem with this it's not quite as mobile as i'd like for a horse.

2) Cost the figure up and treat it as a ridden steam horse with the rider having the arc generator and the buzz saw weapon. - the problem with this is that cost includes the fact that the rider can survive the horse being destroyed, which won't work for my figure.

So neither of these options really fit I suppose a third option would be to add the equipment to an animal from the bestiary and try and reverse engineer a cost, which i would be happy with, 12" movement and no mechanical walker table, but I can't really work out how to work a points cost out for this.

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

I think your biggest problem stems from the fact that they do not have any steam automations that work on their own (I do not have my books with me but that is my recollection) I guess I would start with the stats for a steam horse add the equipment cost as if I were building a character and then consider extra cost for the fact that it must function independently or add an engeener controler that has to be in range (You can determine that) to direct its actions. Maybe Creg can weigh in on this one.

I do recall they not have a mechanical dog. Hummmm??? Maybe that can give some guideline as to how to  handle control issues (A horse that acts like a big dog  o_o) Just my thoughts.

Your opponent may allow you to use the costs for animal movement in HVF.

You might also want to look at the Automaton thread for unofficial ideas.

I've been working on the model today, he's evolved in to being a more electo / clockwork horse.

So I'm still not sure how to play him in game. I think something from the bestiary bump up the armour and give him an arc generator that can't be picked up by anyone else.
