The Nefarious Schemes of One Fram Framson (update 6/2 - Awooga)
« on: February 17, 2014, 07:00:29 PM »
I've been on and off the boards, pestering people for miniatures, information, and just about everything in between. Well, I can't have people thinking that it's all for nothing.

My sinister plot to actually get my wife and roomate ensnared in the web of Pulp Alley continue apace. After much ballyhoo, I have two leagues painted so far, but am not posting them yet because the basing's not finished (plus I need to varnish them). I suppose I'm finicky about making leagues exactly the way I want to, so the process of assembly and painting them is probably unnecessarily painful, but I've actually spent more hours painting minis in the past month than I ever have in my life.  ;D

The overall theme is Pulp, mashed with Call-of-Cthulhu, and eventually also mixed with 30's-era Back of Beyond too (though not all the games will be BoB games).

As a teaser for now, I'm posting up a bit of backstory for the first league, Mrs. Donerwetter (pronounced Germanically, with a 'V').

Quote
After years of brutal, unrelenting rule meant to rescue the family dairy business from near-bankruptcy, Mrs. Donnerwetter's grandson (also employed as her business manager) finally managed to convince his grandmama to spend a little of her precious funds and travel the world. While abroad, Mrs. Donerwetter plans to expand her late husband's collection of truly odd and somewhat disturbing knickknacks. Certainly the cats seem to like them.

Google Doc: Mrs. Donerwetter Abroad.

Hopefully my basing tufts will arrive soon and I can get on with the pictures.

A great collection of letters, FF.  ;)

There is definitely a sense that something sinister is afoot!

I'm a big fan of the back-story. It's a big part of gaming for me to set the scene and the atmosphere. This series of letters is particularly intriguing! Will there be more letters? It sets a great atmosphere and I'm really looking forward to seeing the pictures.

P.S. Is Schrödinger dead and alive?  ;)

I don't believe so, but he is capable of being both here and... somewhere else.

I had been wondering about that rather eclectic list of 'wants'.... o_o

It looks like you have a very cunning plan, sir.
Looking forward to seeing some progress updates.
Oh, yes!

How is Mrs Donerwetter getting on in her travels? Any more letters for us to read yet?

I've been bad with updating this thread, but better in terms of getting work done.

I have some other backstory for a Russian team, which ballooned to fifteen pages (the damn thing got away form me) and which still requires heavy editing.

More importantly, I have three leagues painted and am working on some civilians/bystanders/plot points/extra warm bodies now.

I don't want to risk my best paint jobs to learn varnishing with, so once I get a brace of civvies done I can experiment with them. If everything pans out, I'll varnish the leagues and get photos up.

Really looking forward to seeing your leagues and your back story has me completely intrigued! Tell us more about the Russian team when you've done your editing.

Also have some other leagues on the boil, but each is missing a few figures. I need to find someone with a set of the Copplestone Chinese Red Spears who can spare a single one (asked about in the want ads, but no luck).

Is it this set you want one of? If so, I am happy to buy the set and then post you the one you want? PM me if you are interested and I can check the postage to Canada. It shouldn't cost much to post one figure, probably letter rate.

The letters are intriguing! I'm looking forward to reading more of your Pulp project.

I, uh?! What?

Were you going to buy the whole set yourself anyway? That's an enormously kind offer, but I am not asking anyone to make purchases on my behalf - if it comes down to it, I'll buy the lot and flog the extras on the boards.

I'm not destitute, I'm just trying to avoid buying a whole ten-pack when there's only one figure I need (the young-looking turbaned fellow in the bottom middle).

Will send a PM in any case!

No, no nothing like that. That pack is on my 'to-buy' list for a future game but I don't need all of them so only too happy to help out. Will respond to your PM.
