The weathering on the truck is great.
Some seriously dirty boots are going in and out of that thing.
 :-*

A touch of Modelmates Liquid Soot all over and then dabbed away would remove the shine, as it seems to leave a residue, and then you could paint on top.
That is what I do and I am happy with the 'dulling' down that it provides.
I also leave the 'Soot' in recesses for easy shading too.
 ;)

The Dunlop Tyres Van.

This one has had the Soot removed completely in places to keep a little shine....

...whereas this one got the treatment all over....

The Express Dairy Milk Tanker.

It also has the added bonus of being extremely quick to do.
Half an hour for each vehicle to get to this stage.
You are more of a perfectionist than I am though so I guess you would take these much further.
 ;)

Now I shall stop hijacking your thread and leave it to you to keep impressing us properly...

Here's a couple more. This is another Ford AA.

And a before image to give you an idea. I discovered a neat new way to paint wood when I did the bed, involving some layered drybrushing plus washes. Hooray.

Getting better with weathering powder, but not quite there. This time I sprayed the fixative on, but it still wound up being far too thick and I had to go back and do it again. I'm sure an airbrush would be much better as you really need fine atomization. Not as even as it could be, but at least this time it looks like dust and not mud.

I did however figure out that you could spray fixative on, then add weathering powder. Which gets closer, but still nothing as good as it looks as when I just dust on the weathering powder with no fix. Of course no fix means it rubs off at the slightest touch (I know some people say "the pigment powder just stays where you put it", well not for me!).

I very lightly weathered two more cars, but this is more of a "look at the cool cars I found!" brag than anything because this was just a light dusting (and in the case of the aqua car, I wanted to keep it looking very new and shiny, so I mostly just dusted the wheels themselves and almost nothing else).

Oh and I did wind up doing a satin/matte coat on the blue Ford truck's paint to make it look like the more worn and used of the two.

Oh Yeah, True Dat...

Do tell, who makes 'em, n'whatta dey 'sposed to be?

Nice Ford AA too.  Another one I do not need, but very much want.
Might I trouble you Sir, for a hub to hub wheelbase measurement?
My list says the Matchbox MoY Ford AA is 1/46, I'd love to confirm that before buying.
Not that they don't LOOK spot on, but trick photography is, well, just that...

I read somewhere that by 1932ish Ford trucks represented 75% of the WORLD truck fleet...
That's a staggering market share, 3 out of every 4 trucks on the road were Fords.
& ALL the other manufacturers of EVERY country struggled to survive on the remaining quarter.
Mind you probably more trucks, & hence more Fords on roads in the USA than anywhere else in world,
but Ford, a global brand, was everywhere on the planet a man could, or cared to, drive.
& Lots of folks, Britain, Germany & Russia for starters, license built Fords for domestic consumption, & export.

Different story on the automobile end of course, & the forthcoming war changed all those percentages,
but for your Pure Pulp Pleasure, Ford's gotta be THE truck of choice!!

P'shaw, nary tr'uble t'all.

The exact measurement is 72mm from hub to hub. I would say that the Matchbox Ford AA trucks are one of the most perfectly sized vehicles out there to fit 28mm minis, which is why I greedily grabbed two.

The smaller cars are some of the Euro models. The sporty maroon number is a Starline models 1/43 Fiat 508 Balilla rally car (I removed the numbers) and the aqua car is an Ixo models Salmson S-4E, which is supposedly 1/43, but I have my doubts (it is however PERFECTLY size... unlike every other IXO model I grabbed, which turned out to be far too large). Since the Fiats were such small cars, the 1/43 size (and it is genuinely 1/43) actually works just fine. Here's a quick comparison shot:

It's tough to find cars which perfectly fit the figures AND which are also beautiful right out of the box, but there are a few. About half the cars I bought didn't work at all (far too large or small, or are just plain ugly), but I just resell the ones I don't want here. Plenty of other folks are just fine with other sizes. lol

These cars are lovely; I like in particular the blue one. Are you planning to paint the leather seats at some point?

COOL WHEELS! I've never had occasion to paint up a vehicle that wasn't being pulled by some animal or other; ERGO, it's interesting seeing what is involved. GREAT WORK!

Thusly 1/46~ for the 131.5" wheelbase models shown, or 1/55 for the 157", which these two are clearly not.

They seem to compare quite favourably, to the Mk I eyeball at least,
much like the Matchbox Crossley tenders from MoY, at 1/47, do.
On the biggish side of things, but then neither one were small vehicles in those days.

I may well have the Motor Pool Sergeant requisition a coupla those after all,
though I'm usually looking for things in the 1/52ish vicinity.
I do think believe imagine perceive feel that's my 'sweet spot' scale for 28mm.
Yet I do have vehicles scaled larger & smaller that "look" right, to me at least.

Yeah.

Right.

I have 'experience' buying vehicles online from Canuckistanis...

Once gotta box fulla "beautiful" but "far too large" "that just didn't work at all"...
Nuttin' "just plain ugly" though, dodged that bullet!!  Whew!!

Even though I can't game with 'em they still look purty onna shelf, & I likes 'em, a lot!!

But this isn't about scale, or nefarious sellers, it's about cars n'trucks.

& yours look lovely, quite the business, well done & most appropriate.

I must needs do something akin to this with my fleet soon.

Or sell 'em all off in despair...

I was wondering if you'd remember... lol

You got the black-and-white roadster (that was another IXO model) and the Soviet truck, right? God they were beautiful! I just wish they weren't so HUGE  :'(

I have some other stuff, as well as another Fiat coming, one markedly less sporty but very similar in size. I may even get more because apparently there's a whole series of variations on the Fiat 508 and 500 all in similar size, but which all look wonderfully different. I also have a few more cars (including some Crossleys) which I haven't weathered yet. I should take a picture of my fleet once it's assembled.

Was it you who also bought the 1/43 black model A coupe? I got three of those. It's also a bit on the big size, but is barely okay. I like these Fiats much better though, now that I've found them, so I may have a couple more cars to sell soon.

I think the one thing I wish I could find was a ratty, elderly short truck or van, like a Model T truck. But because they tended to be tiny and these things were sold in box scale, the Model T trucks are always grossly oversized (except for the the Lledo one, which is morbidly undersized).

The pain will lessen once you receive them! I hope...  lol

I was thinking about that. I don't think I'd fully repaint them, but maybe a quick ink wash to make them pop.

Yep.

I'm that mullet...

Russian-made pulp-era die-cast cars. A Ford Model A, as well as an early Russian truck, with nice detail on both. Ford is $x, Truck is $xx
+ the Duesenberg  $x
+ the Lledo car  $x

Dammit those Russki rides are simply too lovely to ditch,
yet you could play Pulp Alley ON them, they're so bloody HUGE!!

The Doozy's a shade biggish, but they're big cars, jury's still out on her.

The Lledo works just fine for me, though you probably thought it small.

Yeah, a cheap die cast would be nice, all the build up purpose made 28mm offerings are so dear.

I'll keep my eyes open, for the both of us.
