The Drum, 1938 for some proper stiff upper lip NWF action.  :D

Seems eminently sensible to me.... much rather hang on to the old crown jewels old bean  lol.

Darrell.

Good heavens, old chap! They're not THAT important! We can take it for granted that any fellow unfortunate enough to be traipsing around Waziristan is a YOUNGER son and the inheritance has already passed to your elder brother. (Tough luck about that, as well, wot?)  ;)

Bugger.... Much anticipated but disappointing. I really was looking forward to these. Oh well.

The website mentions A & B versions of the Highlanders - any idea when these will be available?

Thanks very much

Hopefully before Salute.

Very nice minis, now as it is the Mr Talented Hicks sculpting these I do beleive it would be remiss if he didnt have a bash at sculpting these Highland gents ;D perhaps even for his mutton chop range

On the general subject of "goolie chits" and the like I came across a most gruesome tale (unfortunately I can't recall precise details off the top of my head; I think it relates to the 1890s) where a few Imperial troops had been captured; when they were found they'd been staked out on the ground and apparently the tribal women had urinated into their mouths until the men drowned. When a number of tribal men were taken they too were staked out; the Imperial regiment assembled ready to march out and as they passed each man fell out in turn to deliver a good kick between the legs to the tribal prisoners. Grim and gruesome in the extreme all around but hence Kipling's famous refrain:

When you're wounded and left on Afghanistan's plains,
And the women come out to cut up what remains,
Just roll to your rifle and blow out your brains
An' go to your Gawd like a soldier.

I would buy these straight away! I've just ordered the RAF pilots this morning, great miniatures.

There is an account of Ghurka soldiering on the NWF called "Bugles and a Tiger" that goes into the incidents that you just mentioned. I read the book when I was 11 or 12 and was quite disturbed......
