(KICKSTARTER) MERCS: Recon
« on: February 27, 2014, 07:26:17 AM »
Looks like a board game version of MERCS is coming kinda sorta soon. KS is apparently starting as soon as next month -- unless Megacon Games is talking of March 2015:

I suppose one might find more info on it somewhere but I can't be bothered to dig right now. Maybe later.

I've seen some posts here and there about this game.

To me, it looks like a near future version of Space Hulk, with destructable and deformable terrain. Apparently, a squad of spec ops enter a building (high rise?) to obtain info, rescue hostages etc. So the whole game is set inside a modern / near-future office building.

Looks like it could be fun, especially considering the developers' track record so far...
Miniatures you say? Well I too, like to live dangerously...

Some more information here:

Not too much tho. Unsubstantiated rumors claim this would launch next Wednesday tho so maybe not long before we get more details.

Just received a Myth-related KS update that the Myth delivery delay pushes the KS kickoff further down the road. I think one obligation/campaign at a time is a wise move.

Apparently the date has been set for this KS now and it's March 13.

Not likely going to take part myself. Still not fond of the "miniatures board game" thingy (tho the gaming companies obviously are) and besides it's based on a wrong continent. Maybe there'll be some useful minis coming out of it at some point tho.

I'm eyeing it for minis, as well.

Sounds like a modern urban spin on Space Hulk. I'll pick up some figs eventually but I'm KS'd out for a while.

I have been keeping an eye on MERCS for a while now but have always held off... This just might be the thing to bring me in.

I am wanting just the add on but its starting to tempt me but only can afford to get the $120USD pledge level.

LGW

Sounds like a modern urban spin on Space Hulk.

True, true... But it promises to have some more dynamic rule mechanisms. And if Myth is any indication, they will be pretty involved and fun. And look at their current funding, the time it's still open and the array of stretch goals; this promises to be every bit as rewarding as Myth has proven to be.

So, even though I was not really planning to, I might very well take the plunge and make my first pledge...

This is selling like the proverbial hotcakes, currently going at almost US$236,000 (or funded nearly 5 x over if you prefer) with more than a month to go  o_o

Miniature board games do seem to be the Thing To Get Into right now. Must be riding on the general popularity of board games I keep hearing about. Personally, I get a neither-fish-nor-fowl vibe from the concept but it does look like it's pretty much just me...

After watching their demo they have posted on Youtube, I made the plunge, and backed them on Kickstarter.

I have also pledged.
