Dust Tactics v2.0
« on: 13 April 2014, 11:22:50 AM »
DT v2.0 has been in the works for a while but now it's officially out... At least for download, given the DT-related delivery problems GF9 and Battlefront have had recently, I suppose the printed version will be around sometime a bit later.

I was a bit surprised to see that there is now also an open tabletop version of DT included in the full book, going by the name of Dust Tactics Battlefield. Not available for download tho so can't say a lot about that except that it uses DT stat cards instead of Dust Warfare statistics. Presumably it's sorta like "DW lite" ???

Interesting. I'd like to play a couple of games of DT again, been too long and I like the idea of an open tabletop. DW did nothing for me, adding complication and changing random stuff without actually being more fun. Hopefully line of sight is nice and simple just like the grid version.

Don't really see what the point of the free rulebook in Wargames Illustrated a wee while back (free is always nice though ;)); this looks different again.

I don't care too much for DW either, it has added complexity in the wrong places IMCO. Obviously DTB might be on the "simplistic" side of "simple" which isn't to my liking either...

The previously available DT rulebook is likely to have been the version 1.5, which one supposes was put out for beta testing purposes. Not much is changed from that tho according to a company rep on DT forums.

The DT booklet that came with WI recently only had the square-based rules... I think. I didn't spend a whole of time reading it after I spotted the square-thingy.

Then I saw the demo game on BoW. It looked better than I had thought, though I have to say I hate the bullet-sponge superheroes...

DT used to be square based (and looks like to be until the printed v2.0 book actually comes out) which is specifically why I was a bit surprised to see the "Battlefield" version. The v1.5 and v2.0 square based "basic" rules are on the verge of being "not-square-based" as well tho (for reasons presumably now made obvious).
