Getting started with WWW2
« on: July 07, 2008, 10:00:16 AM »
Hello folks,

finally I decided to get started with WWW2 (28mm scale) and so I immediate registered on this forum.

Now I need some help how to get started - there are a few things I already have and could use for WWW2 games:

-I ordered the SOTR-rulebook and some other stuff, all in all I`ll have
-1 Nazi-Vampire,
-20 WestWind German Gasmask heads (for conversions)
-and 4 historic German Offizers when the packet arrives.

-I also have already some old Warzone miniatures I could use:
-24 Undead Legionaires (2nd edition, could use them as Undead Fallschirmjäger cause their rifle looks like a fairly oversized FG42 when you remove the goony bajonet)
-7 different Necromutants (unsure if I will use them cause they are way to large (2 heads higher than normal humans), look way to Sci-Fi, have comic-like heads and carry oversized heavy-future-machineguns as normal rifles, maybe with a lot of Greenstuff and Stahlhelmen (-> headswap with the WestWind-ones?) as supersoldiers.... maybe they look a bit less awful with a sculped greatcoat or something)
[-some other Deamons (5 or 6 Nephrapite) I would have to convert heavily to use them, not sure if they finally make it]
[-12 Undead Legionaires 1st edition warzone, don`t know if i`ll use them]

So it seems if i could make a whole company of German undead paratroops.
Problem: Gun wielding (and firing!) Zombies doesn`t fit to the dumb zombies of SOTR and the most other Wierd games....  :?
Maybe I sould modify them to be german experiments? Superior infected soldiers?

All in all I want to know from you how you would realize these miniatures in fluff and what else I´ll need to make nice battles for 2-4 players....

Don't have the SOTR rules yet, so don't know what you need to make a good game.

If you're looking for more suitable miniatures though, check out the Weird World War 2 showcase in my signature and it will tell you all you need to know. ;)

Some nice stuff on the boil, but only 2 figures available at the moment.............. I like the skull and Lilith, though way too much suspension........... ;D

Thanks for all the replies.
That showcase is very cool  8).

I made a list for myself what the germans could get at the end:

20-30 Undead Fallschirmspringer (-> Warzone Undead Legionaires)

A lot of No-Brainer Zombies (Westwind ones or/and some of the (often excellent) other miniatures available).

1-2 Vampires, some Werewolves (westwind, Reaper etc.)

1-2 Platoons (-> ca. 50 men) of Warzone Bauhaus Infanterie with new heads and guns as heavy infantery.

1-2 Platoons of historical infantry (ca. 50 men; Black Tree Design and Westwind SHS cause they are in my opinion cheap and so pefect for the use as normal infantry)

Command section (planning to use some of those Artizan Pulp miniatures)

Maybe 1 platoon (2 squads and the astonishing good command squad) out of the Westwind Mechgrenadiers

Armoured suits? Maybe Warzone Bauhaus Vulkan & Viktor ones (look at Pappa Midnight ones, they look so good... mhh....) or Mak Melusines or somewhat else, I´ll first do the infantry.

Some tanks, halftrucks, etc.

All in all, that wouldbe about 200-220 tinmen I`ll have to paint, but thats not impossible due to the fact that I only buy new platoons when another is finished. Today I start basing my Fallschirmjäger, when the first one is finished Ill post pics.

But overall: What do you think? Is that a too blended troop choice? I hope they`ll work fine once painted...

Greetings
I

By the Way, Warzone Bauhaus Minis are great! I use them with the SOTR SHS German Heads for a 40k Imperial Army and they look fantastic! ;)

In the moment i´m planning my first German Platoon, too.
Here`s what i´m going to use:
It will be about 28RP:
Experience Level: Green (well, not enough Points to make them elite ;) )
Body Armour for everyone (sounds like communism, doesn´t it? :D )

1 Command (various weapons)
1 grennadier Squad (with an LMG Fire Team)
1 Vampire
1 Zombie Horde (15 Zombies)

The problem is that you are only allowed to use 3 support choices and in the german army every occult beast is such choice (and of course the mechas and stormtroopers, too).
So you have to decide what you`re going to use. And with 6 Paratrooper squads, 2 Vamps and many Zombies you could use them all just in a really big game (even if you put all zombies into one huge squad you still have 9 Support choices! Six more than allowed in a normal platoon)

But the idea of using Warzone Dark Legion Troops is quiet nice :)

Ok, I`ll include heavy MG-Teams in the platoons. Sadly I don`t have the rulebook yet (but it will arrive tomorrow they sid yesterday  :?), so I can`t start writing a real list. I`m planning to make real big battles (around 100-150 miniatures per side) with some friends, bit it`s not sure if we use the SOTR rules, other rules or design a own ruleset. If we dont use them, I got at least a great book with a lot of fluff and nice painted WWW2 miniatures.

Checked it already... most stuff is not my cup of tea... especially the fight between King Kong and the Nazis looks a bit immature to me....

Already knew the forum. But I didn`t knew the errata. So, erm, thanks.  :)

It`s not the King Kong-Setting I dislike,  I don`t like that on the pictures of the battle an action toy devastes a german army. I prefer tactical simulations, so that toy ape destroys this flair in my opinion because now it looks rather like a play for children than an strategic game.
