Scotia Grendel.
« on: 18 May 2014, 07:31:42 AM »
In my search for suitable miniatures for a near future project i had a look on the website of Scotia Grendel. Their commandoes might be the ones i am looking for. Unfortunately the pictures on the website are quite small.
Does anyone here on LAF has any real life experience with these miniatures? Cheers.

OK those are old Void miniatures, the whole range was quite nice, a lot of the good ones were Kev White sculpts.

Okay Mark, I-kore or G-spot. Whatever. If you have those particular miniatures i would like to know. Don't sprint away just yet but any where in the coming month would be much appreciated. As will be your gesture of donating them to the good cause  lol

According to the website of Scotia Grendel they are still Void....Void 1.1 as it were. Any hands-on experience? Cheers.

the Viridians. .
Indeed. Viridians. Commandoes. And when you look at the pictures you will recognize where GW got the idea for the Catachans. Or was it the other way around. Anyway, these Soctia Grendel Viridian commandoes are quite nice and very reasonably priced. So if anyone can tell me more about the quality of these miniature it would be much appreciated.  8)

I've got a couple of them back in the day (2002 or so) when they were first released (so well after the Catachans, FWIW). In a way, they are a throwback to the Warzone Bauhaus Jungle Commandos, but with reasonable pulse rifle thingies in place of the slightly OTT rotary shotguns.

Here are some quick shots of mine. Old (10 years+) paintjobs, varnish has silvered somewhat, dusty and chipped to boot. They really should go to the stripping vat for an eventual re-paint.

Last one is a comparison shot with a Copplestone-sculpted Mirliton Ex-Grenadier Future Warriors figure.

Generally, sculpt and casting quality were rather good back in the day, and I got numerous Kryomek figs from Scotia in recent years which were well-cast, too. The sculpting quality is still fine, although the poses look a bit stiff, if you ask me. Weapons aren't too bad either, the machetes look remarkably un-cricket-batty IMHO.

I've alway had fine to great service from Scotia Grendel, so nothing to stop you ordering from them. The casting quality of some of the larger resin stuff I got was a bit spotty, which may be due to deteriorating moulds (mainly old 1990s stuff, like the 5-pounder Hydra). Smaller figures should be fine.

EDIT: Bloody Swiss Army Ninjas.  lol

yes, they pretty much go 1:1 with copplestone. they are actually too slender to go with plastic catachans, but they work acceptable with the metal ones and with house orlock. the viridian range btw includes a few colonial marines that are quite similar. I have them all and love them for theit simplicity. I combine them in units with copplestone future warriors, old, new and foundry

if they were sculpted by Kev White, it explains why they go so well with Haslefree

Gents, many thanks for the insightfull and helpfull answers (as per usual) to my question. Chris and Doc those are lovely miniatures and very well painted and they have really put the hook in me. Scotia Grendel (are they present here on LAF?) will see in the very near furure a small order from me coming their way. Cheers

Don't want to sound like a pedantic nerd, but this particular series were not by Kevin White (who did almost all the void miniatures) but, if I'm not mistaken, by Steve Saleh.  ;D
