Czech Legion Self 'Armoured' Trains
« on: May 21, 2014, 09:26:25 PM »
I’ve found these photo’s on the web of Czech Legion self converted ‘armoured’ trains. I don’t know if they are all correct.
I’d be interested if anyone has a view on them and whether there are any more photo’s of these home made trains out there:

Thanks Cuprum
Plenty of visual information there for a build

So is this a static carriage used for living in?

These carriages were equipped as housing. They can stand for some time at railway sidings, but when the military unit was transferred to another place - they were leaving together with his "home".

Found this site which shows some reconstructions of the trains:
http://www.bvv.cz/en/idet/news2/great-presentation-legionaries-at-idet-legiovlak-i/

This shot shows how an armoured car was mounted on the train:

and presumably an orginal:

Many of the reconstructions on the net have the carriages painted in this colour:

Accurate?

And there is this excellent shot of an interior (no idea if this is an original):

Compelled to disappoint you - the armored car is not real. This is a replica.

Wagons "teplushka" Russian Railways did have a similar color, but somewhat darker. Reddish brown.

When you say 'not real' what do you mean Cuprum?
The original black and white image is inaccurate (i.e.the Legion did not mount/transport any armoured cars on flatbed carriages) or that the modern armoured car is a fake?
Thanks for the colour reference.

But they did move/use ACs mounted on flatbeds?

The Czechs put armoured cars on flat cars both for transport and as train "guns".
If the armoured cars had been damaged, ie. lost a wheel or had mechanic problems, they could still be of good use on flat cars.

Some of the pictures here are have already been posted, but I have repeated them, where I had some texts to describe the content.

Some of the photos here shall maybe not be with armoured Czech trains, then they can be removed.

Czech armoured car of type Jeffery Poplavko

Armoured car Jeffery-Poplavko, deployed in May and June 1919 by the Czechoslovak troops of the 3rd Division at a village nearf Narva. Many cars seem to had the name"Janosik". The Czech marking consisted of only a white ribbon painted on the rear and probably were on both front and rear also painted the number "91".
