Well, I've just spent 20 minutes fiddling around attempting to make pantiled sections out of the plastic rod I bought......back to the drawing board.......the rods are over round and too thick. This is becoming an expensive build  :(

Too long! Only done 2 sides......just started the third. Very therapeutic I suppose..... I will probably give it a thinned pva coat eventually then rough up with fine emery board........if it works then I have all the other roofs to do.... unless they also captured a cargo of slate which would make it easier :D

If it's easy, it ain't worth doing ;)

It'll be worth it when it's done  :)

that look fabulous!

However, from my experience the paint simply doesn't stick on those! :( Probably with an aggresive primering that might work!

by the way, I'm currently planning to do some resin roofing with that style, using some more thick materials and casting them in rows!

Top points for ingenuity and round of applause for determination.....wouldn't bother with pva...personally would head off to local car paint emporium and get a can of spray etch primer for plastic - that should do it for you....however you decide to go colour me well and truly impressed

If nothing else works, a gesso primer might be worth giving a try as well.

That's a damn fine looking building. Can't wait to see the end result.
Below is a link to my blog. It's the place where I write uninteresting things about little toy soldiers. I do this because I refuse to grow up and behave like an adult.

Only looks like a small update but it's taken a lot of time and use of profanities.....one more edge ot do then the 'mortaring' can begin......

A couple of finished pirates for the time being though..............

I'd tried for piercing blue eyes for this one...not quite managed it  :-[

Why not use cardboard with one side of the backing removed? You can cut it into strips for the pantiles, and then use straws to hide the joints.

I'd thought along those lines but wanted overlapping tiles.....this is a labor of love that has now become the 8th task of Hercules...........

Well....the tower roof is just about finished. Problem is the plastic straw pieces do not adhere to the pva or the filler.....I have the etch primer and the gesso ready for once I've cleaned it up......the brass weather vane looks the part but I think will be too flimsy to last..I have the Thomarillon one on the way. Thanks to everyone so far for the ideas! The thought of a removable roof on the small slope has gone.....I certainly need a different method for the slopes. No corners will be a blessing though....

A quick shot of the latest additions to the crew....need to get them done before the Northstar ones arrive!

Some nice pirates there!

However, i strongly suggest you to do some experiments on some roofing samples before painting the big one. Considering the hours spent to make it, it would be a real pain to see the paint peeling off! :S
